How can I make everything tie in on a tight budget?
Comments (12)Hi. If you can sew I would make your own curtains, rather than cream I would go for white and silver grey. The other option is to buy some cheap ready made curtains and either add borders in a luxury fabric or add something like a Pom pom trim etc. I would probably stop buying bits until you've sat down and looked at schemes you like. Once you've done that then make up a mood board so you can see how it all ties together. It just means you won't waste money on buying stuff you don't like. I would also look at trying to create a focal point as you don't have a fire, this could be art or a mirror over a cabinet for example. Or hang your tv above a console and add art around it.The biggest change for me atm would be to add cushions to lighten the sofa up though. I would also keep an eye on ebay, antique shops, country house auctions etc for maybe a replacement desk and a coffee table. Adding a lamp will add cosiness. I saw this fab light at george of asda the other day for £20. No idea what it looks like in the flesh but looks nice online!...See MoreHow can I make this kitchen cool?
Comments (18)Personally I'd keep it really simple and light. Paint the upper cabinets to tone with the tiles, or think about replacing the doors with glazed ones—more practical than open shelving, but a similar spacious look. If you were feeling really adventurous you could paper the back of them with mirror leaf/silver leaf for a reflective glow that would also open out the space further. I like the idea of painting the lower doors charcoal (or a warmer grey if you prefer), your room looks very bright so it can take it. A vibrant long rectangular image along the end wall to visually widen the space, characterful rugs and some cheerful kitchen paraphernalia/flowers and I think you'd have a lovely space! You're very lucky, it's really just tweaking....See MoreHelp! I bought a sofa and am having doubts. Is this nice or vile?
Comments (71)Since you asked for honest opinions, I think that is the most awful sofa I have seen. You made a great decision to cancel your order. Comments (12)It all comes down to budget as always. The bigger the budge the more you can do. I would be really mindful of the fact, that if you change the facade, it would be better if you could change the windows. The wood cladding I agree would look fabulous, you could have the bottom a lovely grey to tone in. However, neither will look good with bog standard white windows, as both look better with a dark grey, thinner Aluminium Frame or a Chunkier Sandy Beige Frame. When you add white windows, the effect is not quite so slick The pic above shows the white windows with the cladding and it would look a lot better with the darker, thinner frames. If you can't afford to change or colour bond the windows, then maybe go for all over colour, a dark grey would be good, and consider changing the Front door for impact. Alternatively, work towards doing the ultimate change. The vertical wood cladding, with a grey underneath and a door to match the wood. Thinner dark pewter aluminium framed windows etc. sorry about the mock up quality!...See MoreSteph Vanhellemont
