Bookcase colour with Stiffkey Blue?
Comments (14)Lovely link thank you carolins. I have spent hours looking at IKEA hacks. HI minnie and no I dont do DIY, a terrible at it sadly! The alcoves are just over a metre wide which is tricky with billy bookcases, the skirtings are fab, they are huge, around 30cm tall and moulded and there is a picture rail too. I would have the shelves up to this point. There are sockets at the back of the alcove so I need access to these so any shevles would have to be fitted above these. I did wonder about doing sth like this (using two sets of billys with a dividing upright in the middle to fill up the alcove width) but the shelves are a tad shallow and am worried it might look a bit cheap....? http://www.ikeahackers.net/2015/06/billys-alcove-alchemy.html...See MoreHow do I make room less formal ?
Comments (36)It is quite formal, but by hanging your pictures in a less orderly way, more ramshackle than perfection, might help. more paintings, more photo frames, more personal. if you always have symmetricallly placed things then it will automatically look formal, try being less symmetrical! the room also perhaps lacks some other textures, try something fluffy ( not my normal go to phrase), a couple more cushions in a non- co-ordinated co-ordinate - complicated huh?...something like a woolly burnt orange in a different shape, rectangular or round, even a velvet. it is a lovely room and well considered but often when people design a room they miss tiny details. you are a stones throw away from perfection. please get in touch if you are in the glasgow area and need a wee help finding the perfect thing - always happy to help...See MoreShould I paint my pine bookcases?
Comments (24)What a gorgeous room! Cromarty is so lovely- in my last house I was planning to use it, but here it’s just a touch too green for me, sadly. I envy you your lovely picture rail; mine has been developed out but at least they left the Edwardian coving! For the bookcases I love both Minnie’s suggestions above. The plaster is soft and playful and evokes rose gold. The pigeon is so effortlessly sophisticated and would really showcase books, treasures etc....See MoreBookcase wall, what to do with cornicing?
Comments (10)I too would find a different bookcase. In fact find a decent joiner and have one made. We had ours built out of mdf and then added trims because we don't have cornicing. It cost me £160 in mdf and £185 for the joiners labour for a day. I then spray painted it white... You can literally have it as you want it and if you're after glass doors, any decent joiner could add them into the design....See More- 10 years ago
