Have you got any ideas to make this house look fantastic?
Comments (32)Hi, If you use an iPad you could download the free Dulux Visualizer app to look at different colours - it's quick and easy (but lighting conditions have to be good) For a cost effective transformation I would have to agree with you and most of the comments by painting the Front door, garage doors and windows of the house. (Use a good primer/undercoat like Zinsser external - shellac or oil based) I would advise all matching colours for a uniform country home feel. The olive green or light green looks nice. For the driveway you could go resin bound which is available in a variety of colours now and lasts much longer than Tarmac with far greater osmosis. Again adding the private home country estate feel at a reasonable price. Rendering comes in various colours (although it is costly) if within your budget will totally transform the look and feel adding to the thermal insulation. And most definitely some easy care, low maintenance plants and planters... You don't have to spend mega bucks! Although probably a good time for discounted evergreens? Comments (32)Start by taking out everything you don't want/need Paint your walls white to start with as this will give the room a fresh new feel, you can always change this if you want but you can't go wrong with white. Dulux pure brilliant white is a good choice so you don't get confused with the cold/warm undertones. Change the largest sofa for something smaller, I don't mind the other one as it is a modern style but if it is worn and you feel you need to change then now is the best time. Wool fabric is a great hard wearing choice and is easy to clean. I have children and have had mid charcoal wool fabric sofas for 4 years and they are perfect! Don't forget that your sofa is an investment so put your money into this as décor can be changed a lot cheaper! Paint the fire surround colour to a charcoal to make it stand out and also link in with the sofas NOW.... is the fun part! I'd concentrate on the red curtains and find some art work or wallpaper or a rug or cushion that you REALLY love with red in and possibly some other bright colours. Be creative & bold! I would consider changing the green curtains but by this stage you'll have a better feel of the room and where it is heading and how you want the room to look from here. If you are worried about the cost of curtains, I'd look at IKEA as you can get some lovely cheap curtains from there. Once you've got to this stage, I'd post some before pics and after pics for us on Houzz and ask for further advice on decorating as you would have a blank slate and something that you LOVE that you can work with on the colours to bring in touches of texture and warmth and comfort from there. Good Luck!...See MoreKerb appeal ideas please
Comments (14)thank you tez, I like the porch idea, the entrance would be to the side of the house and if I could afford and permitable I would do a side extension but it's an overkill as the space is enough currently, maybe a small porch style roof over the entry way, I have saved examples of these. I've never thought of using a gate, wouldnt it be a hassle to open and close the gate when parking? but it's a good security feature specially around kids. we need to consider postman too. the side space is being considered for parking as the house entrance is there. and having hedging or planting at the front...See MoreIdeas on improving Front Exterior without a Front Door please?
Comments (13)Good afternoon everyone! We are blown away by the amazing response we have had from this community, thank you everyone for your feedback. We are especially grateful to Jonathan for his valuable feedback.. the idea is genius and makes so much sense! Thank you so much Jonathan for taking out the time to help us! I have never seen my husband so impressed by an idea so much!! I have attached a couple more photos showing view of the garage from the front of the house along with the entrance gate itself into the property. I have also attached a copy of our floor plan. We would really appreciate your thoughts on what we could to with the garage and front exterior in terms of: Garage walls - What do you think about the brick work? Worth keeping, or should we clad? Garage roof - We currently have an unsightly metal sheet. We don’t want to fully rebuild but we’ve seen light weight roofing for garages which look like tiling. Any suggestions or thoughts on this? Front exterior - We’re looking to improve kerb appeal of the house from the front, any ideas welcome (cladding, paint, stone work?) Windows - these are the original single pane windows which unfortunately come with poor insulation. Any thoughts on what to do for those? Further to the front patio suggestion, is it worth installing an entrance which leads straight into the kitchen through the current ‘Study’? See floor plan. (We are planning to extend the current kitchen by a further 2.5m towards the rear garden). Any ideas, suggestions and comments will be really appreciated, thank you for your help!...See Moret_dunn1213
