Can pvc sliding doors ever look good?
Comments (19)Hi Justin, thank you for taking the time to reply to our query. It is difficult to compare systems because Deceuninck have not published very much technical information about that specific product on their website, but whilst in general terms uPVC may be able to perform fractionally better for U-values than aluminium (it depends on the system), our experience is that with slide and swing doors the weather rating (water tightness, air permeability and wind loading) tend to be much lower. I would also query the information you were given about security. The reason I say that is I cannot find any reference to their slide & swing doors having been tested to PAS24 standards (Building Regs Doc Q) or Secured by Design award standards. The technology of slide and swing doors is developing quickly, but it is starting from nearly 25 years behind bifold doors so will take some time to catch up - that said they are moving along quickly and in certain circumstances offer an alternative to bifold doors. Good luck with your project!...See Morecrittall style window layout
Comments (44)Jonathan originally said taller crittall would look better than the shorter ones even if we had less of them Posted a pic again of the whole room layout for you @Emily. It will have a dark blue black shaker kitchen with suspended chimney extractor on cables and wood effect floor. I’ve seen industrial style kitchens with both crittall and wider bifolds and they both look nice. I would go with bifolds for the cost now because we have a max budget to spent on the house to ever get our money back (it’s not that we can’t afford to do what we want as such but you don’t want to throw money away!) even though I love the Crittall BUT it’s the practical side that we can’t agree on now...See Morecolours for lower ground flats

Comments (8)@Jonathan thanks for the excellent ideas. You are right that the actual space in the kitchen is not much bigger than the existing one, but as it is currently, the flow isn't good and we all end up falling over each other. I should say we have a 2 year old, and planning for another. That's actually why we wanted the extra reception room as well - we aren't so keen on having the full open plan thing so we can all have our own spaces downstairs, and the plan we have seemed a good balance, with spaces for storage as well. We had a plan previously like your 3rd one, but it just seemed like it would need too much steelwork and the SVP moving around. Your 2nd one is a great idea, but again we'd just be living amongst toys and mess all the time! Would definitely have loved a much bigger island like in your plans, but something has to give, and I think 2m x 1m will be enough for us (but need to sacrifice the bar area). @User those tiles look great, thanks! Will have a look for them. @tamp75 your advice is very sensible about not having a door to the kitchen. I was beginning to think this might be an issue (and cooking smells around the house), so will definitely give some thought to what we could put there. I would love Critall doors (who doesn't), into the kitchen and out onto the patio, but our budget won't allow this!...See MoreTani H-S
