Shed is very cool / contemporary. Were did you get the door rail?

Where is the door rail kit from? Color is sharp. Looks like a simple system.

I dont know where the owner picked that up. I have not seen that color anywhere else.

Hi Amanda The thing to think about is how you use the space (and what you really want to use space for) - is the dining room used every day or just at Christmas; in the living room do you use it to watch tv or mainly to sit around doing crafts or chatting to friends. Also it looks like the dining room is the bigger of the two rooms? I personally wouldn't remove the doors, because although it looks cool in photos from California, in the UK the reality is that it just makes hard to heat and noisy rooms. If like most of us the dining room is not used for dining every day I would consider swapping it into the smaller room and incorporating storage for a home office or crafts room there to make the space useful all year round. Then the living room can have the space it needs to have the two sofas either at right angles to each other or facing each other and get the tv in a nice position to view it or hide it in a cupboard if it's not watched much. If you are going down the grey route I wouldn't go crazy with it, farrow and ball's 'shaded white' looks cream in daylight but grey under artificial light. Whatever colour you choose I would paint both rooms the same to give some continuity because you can see through those doors.

Need help on flooring for Edwardian house with contemporary extension

Hi AR, Tiles/Wood effect tiles are an option however you'd be surprised where real wood flooring can go. All our engineered/solid wood flooring is suitable for any room excluding wet rooms. The advantage over tiles is that it can be easily repaired if scratched/damaged. Also in terms of heat, if used with underfloor heating it will hold the heat for longer periods of time as tiles tend to disperse heat faster. Wood is a better natural conductor of heat as opposed to stone/tile, hence why we use them with fireplaces/barbeques etc. (please only use engineered wood flooring with underfloor heating). Not only that but if you wished to change the colour of the floor in 20-30 years it is easily done by simply sanding and applying a stain/varnish. Our flooring has been used in restaurants/bars hotels, as well as residential properties, so do not rule it out as there are many designs/styles available from standard planks, to antique boards, chevrons, Versailles panels, herringbone etc. Just have a quick look through our projects to get an idea. Nice Tractor shed ! Normally when constructing wooden wall, you would just create the openings in the frame for the windows and doors out of the same timber as you go by changing the postition and length of the noggins. You don't buy frames for the windows as they just screw to the wood. Door frames are easily ordered off the internet, so when you're doing the construction, know in advance what size windows and door frames you want. The challenge is the roof construction as it needs to be sound and the whole building will likely need to comply with building regs, therefore, i'd suggest that unless you can design this to comply with building regs yourself, then you'd need a structural engineer to do it for you. You need allsorts of different sized timbers for different points on the building and roof, so best to either find one that you can order from the net and amend a little or get the structural engineer to tell you what you need. ( he would do that anyway on his plan ) Plans too are often available off the internet, but you pay for the service as it's a skilled and time consuming job. If you're not happy with all of the construction yourself, then i'd still suggest a good carpenter. I'm sure you can find one that will be happy for you to work along side and not just take over, as i get the impression that's what you'd like. I've done the same for some customers. However, you must be prepared for the fact, that you may slow him down and time is money ( no offence, I don't know your abilities with regards building construction ! ) Here's a good guide for planning permission etc on Timber framed buildings Timber frames There are some wonderful buildings on here that may suit, or the carpenter could amend :- Warwick Garages As for the Sheet cladding :- It's a specialist fit job really as there are all sorts of bits and bobs you need to bolt them together and then to make the roof ridge. You would be best to use a site like 'My Builder' to find a specialist in your area that can do it for you. Again, with this, you need to find out the sizes of the sheet materials available before you can plan for the roof timbers because, the sheets come in particular sizes, the roof timbers need to be the right distance apart to bolt to the timbers without the need to cut each one to size with an angle grinder. Here's and example of sheet cladding suppliers Steel roof sheets It all sounds very complicated I know, to people that build stuff all the time it's not that bad, you just need to know an awful lot if you're going to start from scratch and not buy pre-fabricated.
