Arts and Crafts home, family bathroom
THE BRIEF
The brief for this bathroom was to create an interesting bathroom that linked to the rest of the house. As in most older properties, the existing bathroom was tiny and unsuitable for a family of four. The beige bath and sink were very dated, so everything was ripped out, right down to the brickwork, allowing me to start with a blank canvas.
THE SOLUTION
The bathroom was extended to incorporate an adjoining cupboard. Hardwearing, practical and colourful cement tiles replaced the thin lino, and Moroccan Zellige wall tiles were fitted to introduce a rustic, textured feel.
Un-lacquered brass taps were used as they develop an interesting patina over time and the soft colouring sits comfortably with the vintage vanity unit, which was made out of a cupboard sourced from eBay.
Spotlights, recessed shelving lights and wall mounted fittings provide functional and attractive layered lighting. A motion sensor switches on low lighting, designed for night time trips to the bathroom.
