Arts & Crafts home, open plan traditional kitchen

THE BRIEF
Kitchen and dining area for a newly built extension, which fits in with the period nature of the existing house but also retains a modern, current feel. To renovate the existing dining area so it flows from the kitchen, but retains its own identity.

THE SOLUTION
Dark blue Shaker style kitchen, with antiqued brass taps and hardware. Reclaimed quarry tiles sourced to match the original hall tiles.
Full lighting and electrical plan to zone the different areas and create functional, multipurpose lighting.
Old window converted into a spice cupboard adds a quirky touch.

The new shaker style kitchen. The floor tiles are reclaimed and match those in the original part of the house. The lighting design incorporates recessed spotlights and features Buster & Punch pendants. An old cupboard was converted into a walk-in pantry (door with apron on).

View of the kitchen island from the new oak doors. The original floorboards were retained and sanded and sealed a rich dark brown to complement the reclaimed terracotta floor tiles. These needed a deep clean once they were installed.

Skylights maximise on the natural light and a new kitchen window was made to match the original window which was removed from the old back wall.

The old toilet window has been converted into a handy spice cupboard.

The original part of the house was used for the main dining area. The pendant lighting is on hooks giving more flexibility for moving the table, if required.

The original fireplace was restored and hand-dipped tiles replaced the modern white square tiles which weren't in keeping with the period of the house. Extra dining room storage was created with bespoke alcove cupboards. The shelving provides storage for recipe books.

Back wall knocked through to borrow space for the new kitchen. Property is Grade II Listed, so unable to extend past the original structure, so space was refigured internally to create a larger open-plan kitchen.
