Arts & Crafts home, master bedroom

To create a relaxing master bedroom which has a warm, restful atmosphere, incorporating the existing chest of drawers and bed.

Low ceilings made the room feel cramped, so the false ceiling was removed to expose the original vaulted ceiling. A bespoke fitted cupboard was designed to sit in and hide the awkward alcove and the rounded steps, leading up to the ensuite, were reshaped.
Statement off-centre lighting was designed to replace the small, central pendant and draw the eye up, enhancing the feeling of space.
New and antique lamps provide functional reading and atmospheric lighting. Full length curtains frame the window and the worn shag pile carpet was replaced with a lightly textured alternative, in a neutral shade, which is easy on the eye.
The existing drawers were placed together to make a more dominant feature and then dressed with tall antique lamps, plants and framed with an aged brass round mirror.
The soft pink walls have a cosy, warm feel without being too feminine. The large artwork above the bed provides an eye-catching focal point and brings some drama into the bedroom.
