THE BRIEF
To update the main living room. Reinstate and repair original features in keeping with the house and provide a formal but comfortable seating area.

THE SOLUTION
The room was rewired and recessed spotlights were installed to highlight pictures and mirrors. A decorative pendant and wall lights create an ambient lighting scheme.

The original pine floorboards were stripped and finished in a white oil. The fireplace was renovated and a new wood burner was installed.

A new bespoke alcove cupboard provides plenty of storage (and hides a wall mounted TV). Newly upholstered sofas give them a fresh, updated look, to complement the redesigned scheme.

The beautiful French Doors and leaded windows were a beautiful feature in the room. To make these more of a focal point they were painted in Farrow and Balls Downpipe.

A large piece of artwork was fitted behind the sofa to create layers of interest and to provide a visual frame for the sofa.

The original sofas were retained because they were well-made and in good condition. Dark grey covers were made for a more up to date look. The sofas were then dressed with throws and cushions to add texture and colour.

The old 80's carpet was removed to reveal beautiful original pine floorboards which were in excellent condition. These were sanded and then sealed in a soft white oil.

The windows and doors were covered in cheap plastic secondary glazing. This was removed and replaced with invisible panels which sit on frame of the leaded glass. The short curtains were removed. The recess in the far wall was where an old window used to be. To retain the story of the house this was updated by removing the curved cover and exposing the original shape of the window. The shelving was also removed.
