Contemporary family garden Harrold, Beds

This was a very enjoyable project. My clients had bought a house in a small village and then built a contermporary extension where they lived. Their daughter and her family moved into the original house. This meant that the garden had to work from both houses, and take the needs of three generations into account (there is a play area behind the house which was installed by the client so not shown on these photos).
My clients wanted a contemporary garden with plenty of space for the children to run about, and various seating and dining areas. We also needed to consider how to connect the new garden with the existing vegetable patch.
I also had to ensure that there was level access into the extension and the garden for their other daughter's wheelchair. Using the sandstone setts enabled us to create a gentle slope up to the front door and garden gate, and then sawn sandstone paving was used in the courtyard area, connecting to a large decked area that linked both houses. The water feature sits on a central axis, and creates quite a statement in the garden.
The planting has been designed to be colourful and structural, so plenty of evergreens were used, along with plants with either colourful flowers or foliage.
