Penthouse Remodel + Refurbishment: NEAL'S YARD

Set in the heart of Covent Garden, the extensive turnkey renovation turned this aging property into a minimalist contemporary space filled with defined livable area’s flooded with natural light.

How can we define different living zones and create optimal light within this difficult existing site?

This project was taken on post planning approval, bringing further challenges and constraints to the project. Re-configuring the previous proposal we unified the penthouse apartment through a single concept without having to reapplying for planning permission.

This was achieved by removing internal partitions and working with existing angles of the mansard roof, the penthouse now offers a long continuous double-aspect space for the user. The circulation space defines the threshold of each room with a lower ceiling. A double guest bed area is built into the existing mansard roof, an area of building usually neglected or used for awkward storage. A bookshelf doubles up as a seating area in the in-between space of the kitchen-dining and living room zone.
