Sleek Expansion in Berkhamsted
Completed with meticulous attention to detail, this design project involved the transformation of a two-storey detached home in Berkhamsted. Our team was tasked with planning the interior space, which included a small front extension and a side extension.
Considering the needs of the client, an older couple aiming to future-proof their home, we devised a thoughtfully curated space plan. Our design maximised the stunning garden views and natural light, while also creating open and inviting areas for the family to gather. Notably, we utilised the picture window as a cosy window seat in the lounge, perfect for relaxation while enjoying the sunlight. Additionally, we designated a sun-filled section of the house for the children and grandchildren to come together.
The kitchen, regarded as the heart of the house, showcases a captivating contrast that sets it apart. To achieve this, we opted for a neutral matte finish on the wall cabinets, beautifully complemented by a striking dark wood island. Adding a touch of vibrancy, we incorporated a blue wall covering in the dining area, injecting both colour and texture into the space. The result is a kitchen that not only serves as a functional hub but also becomes a visually enticing focal point within the home.
Paying close attention to functionality, we incorporated roof lights above the extra-large kitchen island to enhance the interior with more natural light. During summer days, blinds were included to control the amount of sunlight and maintain comfort. Furthermore, we strategically incorporated a hidden bar cabinet with retracting doors, ensuring seamless entertaining without disturbing the cook's main workspace.
In terms of aesthetics, we achieved a light and airy atmosphere with the inclusion of black accents throughout the design. The welcome entrance exudes warmth and contrast with the introduction of dark wood finishes on the walls and coat cabinets. Notably, this area also features a hidden door leading to the bathroom, adding an element of surprise and sophistication.
While the crittall doors to the study and open plan space are yet to be installed, they will ultimately complete the modern look envisioned for the home.
We also ensured convenience and functionality by discreetly concealing the laundry room, complete with hip-height appliances for added comfort and ease of use.
Lastly, a small snug area at the entrance serves as a perfect space for the grandchildren to play and enjoy their favourite TV shows, adding a touch of cosiness to the overall design. The adult’s living space in contrast is an elevated space with an electric fireplace and TV unit that is simple and tasteful.
With meticulous attention to detail and careful consideration of the clients' needs, this completed design project showcases a harmonious blend of functionality, style, and a renewed sense of modernity.
