The Old Bakery

This was a completely derelict building attached to The Old Bakery. We were commissioned to create a modern contemporary living space. The original architects had drawn the kitchen at the opposite end of the kitchen, but we suggested a complete reversal. Not only did this have an impact on the internal space, but also the garden area as we had to reposition the French doors leading to the garden.

The clients wanted a new electric AGA, but apart from that we had a free-hand to make it work. The space was divided into two areas; kitchen and living. We fitted Oak engineered flooring to the living area, which was laid on underfloor heating. The kitchen area was to be large format Jura Blue limestone and again, laid on underfloor heating.

The inclusion of a bold coloured Aga was to set the scene, as this was going to be the statement colour within the kitchen. The cupboards are a traditional Shaker style with glass bar handles. We offered the client the means to introduce further colour within the furniture; the client brought in to us her favorite scarf in bright pink that we had colour-matched and then painted the internals of the curved cupboards and the main cutlery drawer.

The finished room has a timeless elegance that mixes the old and the new in perfect harmony.
