Rane Residence
I hate the colors in this picture, but maybe something 2-levels like this would work. I want the kids to have a place to spread out and do homework, or sit and eat while I'm cooking or doing dishes, and I want to be able to face them and talk. If there is a sink in the island then we need a split level so water/dirty dishes don't take up the whole space. If no sink there, then all one level so it can be multi-use... Make sense? MG: Lets look at how much room we have, but I think you can do a single level counter...the multi-level are really dated and we are removing them all over the place. That said, it needs to be functional for your family, so let's keep talking this through!
If the walls and lighting are bright enough I'd consider a colored cabinet to the bluesy side like this (but these may be a bit dark?). I really like the unobtrusive bar stools for both size and the slight industrial / antique / 50's-factory feel. MG: Like that you are interested in different looks! I looked at those stools too! LOVE them!!
Love reclaimed wood or butcher-block top
This is nice - I like the legs - I don't like legs on the corners...
This isn't perfect, but getting there. Big, chunky top, rustic.
Ooh - this is nice and simple but elegant.
