Hannah Clyman’s Block 1 Ideabook
I like this room because it is symmetrical. Symmetry is easier to live with as it creates a visual balance that is easier on the eye, calming and harmonious. I like how the designer considered the visual weight of objects through colour, texture, size, and shape. It is important to remember that darker, larger, complex and highly textured elements appear visually heavier within a design scheme.
I like this room because it has 3 dimensional features. For example, the room has a unique coffee table that makes the room feel unified by incorporated the tan colors throughout the room. And, by placing the vases around the room, it adds to the 3 dimensional aspect. Using 3D furniture such as a unique coffee table or vases it provides the room a visual interest to whom ever is sitting in it.
I like how this room displays transition. It has a smooth and clean transition from the kitchen to the kicking room and dining room all at one one, making the open floor plan shine. With this transition, it subtly leads the eye gently in a continuous, uninterrupted flow from one are to another. The curved lines of the chairs in the back table accentuate the curved windows, leading the eye around the space.
In this room, it has an asymmetrical feel. Asymmetrical balance occurs when you have different visual images on either side of a design, and yet the image still seems balanced. In this room, one side has unequal weight due to the big mirror, bow on the other side where we have noting to balance it, it still seems asymmetrical. Those unequal visuals balance each other out. Asymmetrical balance creates a less formal or rigid scheme. They tend to have a more relaxed feel to them as a variety of elements are working together to create balance.
In this room, I like how proportion is demonstrated. Proportion in space refers to the placement of objects within a space. For example, the chairs are proportional to the table- they aren’t to low and they aren’t to high. If the chairs were too small, or too large, the proportion would be off and the furniture would seem over-scaled, but in this room everything is balanced from the light fixtures, to back windows, and all through the room.
I like how this room has a focal point. This makes the room feel more inviting and offer a more comfortable place to rest. In this room, I like how the furniture is arranged around the focal point. The fireplace and the large windows help create the center point, which is the chandelier. In addition, with the color schemes of the room, it has an affect where it makes the chandelier pop out.
I like how this room coveys they effect of repetition. By repeating the paintings on the wall and having that go through on the color choices of the room it creates emphasis by calling attention to the repeated element through force in numbers. The eye wants simulation and variety, but the need to be balanced with the repetition of other elements are in use.
This room brings up the category of pattern. The use of pattern in this room can be the focal point or act as a backdrop, but in this cases, the blue and orange patterns bring your eye to the chandelier. This pattern can visually make the room look bigger and it can disguise the uneven walls too. The selecting 3 dimensional patterns, such as, the rug and the chairs, it makes the room seem larger
I like how this room has light incorporated in it. By increasing the light, it leads to more positive and calm emotions rather than it being dark leading to feelings of sadness. In addition to having the bright window providing light, the white furniture also brightens up the place by giving the room a modern feel.
I like that this room has texture. It gives the kitchen a extra layer of depth and interest. The smooth and shiny textures of the this room reflect more light and give a cool impression with the blue brick involved in the back. Meanwhile, the granite island provides the room with a sense of feel of it being “homie”
I like that this photo persuades the reader to having a bigger room than it actually is by putting in curved furniture. By having the round sofa, it enhances the flow of the room and soften the living space. In addition, by adding the curved window feature, if provides the room with a clam vibe that draws the eye to the focal point of the room.
I like this room because it gave a vertical effect to the room. By having the shower class have a vertical line in the middle gave to room a subtle affect of open space. Along with the windows, they provide the room height by making it seem that the space is bigger than it is. Overall, with the vertical lines in and out of the shower, the tile around the walls, and the lines in the window, it makes the room have a vertical aspect.
I like this room because I like the gradation of the colors in the back of the room. Gradation refers to a way of combining the art elements by using series of gradual changes in those elements. In this case, it is the colors going from dark to light. By having this element in the room, it makes the room have good rhythm by having a relaxing tone to make you feel calm.
