40th Annual Landscape Awards Program, Columbus, Ohio

Traditional Garden, Columbus

Project of the Year: Architectural Landscape Design, Inc. & Jamie Fox Landscaping, Inc. were presented with the Project of the Year Award, the highest recognition awarded, in the Residential Installation Category for the “Dauwe Residence” Project. This is the second year in a row Architectural Landscape Design, Inc. & Jamie Fox Landscaping, Inc. were recognized as Project of the Year recipients. In this comprehensive landscape project, the client had barely broken ground on this brand new home before contacting a landscape design company to assist in the layout. Through the regal entryway, you drive by stone walls to encounter a brick paver bridge midway between the street and the home. As you peer over the bridge into the functional streambed, the wind gently moves the maiden grass and Siberian iris, creating an atmosphere of calm, natural beauty. Locally-sourced creek stone adds to the established feel of the home and its gently-sloping hills. The large car court features a retaining wall constructed from more local stone cut into irregular shapes for a weathered and weighty appearance. Looking westward across the billowing catmint, the broad quartzite steps with shallow risers accentuate the grandeur of the home while providing functional ease of use. A small courtyard constructed in front of the home provides a focal viewpoint from the kitchen window, as requested by the client. The courtyard, which also functions as a walkway, contains a dynamic centerpiece and is ringed with heavily-textured accent plants and bright color. This peek into other areas of the landscape demonstrates the expanse of color and plant varieties used throughout the property.
