This was a small cabin located in South Lake Tahoe, CA that was built in 1947. The existing original kitchen was tiny, inefficient & in much need of an update. The owners wanted lots of storage and much more counter space. One challenge was to incorporate a washer and dryer into the space and another was to maintain the local flavor of the existing cabin while modernizing the features. The final photos in this project show the before photos.

A mountain modern designed kitchen complete with high-end Thermador appliances, a pot filler, two sinks, wood flat panel cabinets and a large counter height island. The kitchen is open to the dining room and the great room as well as connected to the large exterior deck through large glass sliders. The 10 foot custom walnut dining table was designed by principal interior & furniture designer Emily Roose. The great room linear fireplace has a custom concrete hearth and is clad in black metal as well as rusted steel columns. In between the rusted steel columns are Modular Art Panels that were custom painted and are lit with LED strips running down behind the rusted steel columns. The fireplace wall is clad in custom stained wood panels that also hides away the TV when not in use. We re-designed a rustic lodge home for a client that moved from The Bay Area. This home needed a refresh to take out some of the abundance of lodge feeling and wood. We balanced the space with painted cabinets that complimented the wood beam ceiling. Design is a direct response to architecture and the home owner. It sshould take on all of the challenges, lifes functionality issues to create a space that is highly functional and incredibly beautiful. The curved ceiling was born out of the three structural beams that could not be moved; these beams sat at 2090mm from the finished floor and really dominated the room. Downlights would have just made the room feel smaller, it was imperative to us to try and increase the ceiling height, to raise the roof so to speak!

Kitchen remodeling with extension. We move the wall between the living room and the kitchen. We supported it with Anthony Power beam. After getting the structural and architectural and engineering plan. The style of the cabinets was a shaker white and grey solid wood cabinet with custom-made upper cabinets to fit the design that was made by the designer. We did a custom-made kitchen pantry and a door that matches the color of the island, and we made a custom pantry vent hood. The countertop was from quartzite with a farmhouse sink. We used white backsplash tiles from ceramic (3 by 6) tile with grey grout to match the color combination. We used laminate wood for the ceiling which gives the look of the wood. The flooring was (12 by 24) from porcelain that looks like concrete. Lighting is LED light 6 inches (recessed can lights). The appliance finish was stainless steel, and the overall look was wonderful and very functional and ended with 100% customer satisfaction.

You can add a breakfast bar or counter to your existing kitchen units, or stick with a good old-fashioned dining table if you don’t need the extra work surfaces. How do I choose my kitchen units and cabinets?

It’s always best to overestimate how much kitchen storage you’ll need as we all tend to have a habit of filling up whatever current space we have to the maximum. Shaker style cabinets and raised and recessed panel cabinets offer a more traditional kitchen cabinet look, while flat panel cabinet doors tend to lend more to the modern and contemporary style. However, going for raised or recessed panel work in a striking colour such as dark blue, green or black can still work with contemporary kitchen ideas. White kitchens can give a sleek and clean feel, but remember you may have to do a bit more cleaning of those cupboard doors if you want everything to stay shiny and fresh. You can also look at corner drawers and cupboards that open up to reveal lots of extra storage.
