Sally was asked to design and oversee the complete refurbishment of this stunning yet poorly converted one bedroom apartment set in a handsome period mansion block on the outskirts of Covent Garden in Central London. Enormously high ceilings give this apartment a New York lofty feel while large original windows flood the space with natural light. Sally discovered that original windows and decorative pillars had been boarded up and so immediately set about reinstating these unique period features. A streamlined kitchen with expansive lightly veined worktops and contemporary oak cabinetry was designed to compliment a classic oak parquet floor, giving the apartment a light, contemporary and natural feel.

Our client was looking for something different, and the minute he saw the dusky pink kitchen, he immediately loved it. Mike worked with him to design a layout for his kitchen in an apartment within a period manor house. The painted furniture allowed us to curve the end of the kitchen to create a corner sink, which provided extra working space in front of the window above his washing machine. We complemented the furniture with a quartz worktop and splashback. For appliances, he chose a Siemens induction hob, and we added a canopy extractor that created a striking feature. Two integrated fridge freezers and a dishwasher are all hidden away beautifully. The client decorated the room to complement the kitchen and make the most of the high ceilings. Situated just south of Kensington Palace and Gardens (one of the most prestigious locations in London), we find this lovely slim U-shaped kitchen full of style and beauty. Smaller in size but the sleek lines are still evident in this project within the tall cornices and external skirting. We loved working in this stately Victorian building! Our client’s luxury bespoke kitchen journey began with a visit to The Handmade Kitchen Co showroom. The couple were able to see the exquisite quality of our furniture for themselves which would provide them with a unique and personal space that would be loved for many years to come. Our client wanted to showcase their impeccably good taste and opted for our Traditional Raised shaker. It has been highlighted with a black paint hand-painted onto the cabinets known as Black Beauty by Benjamin Moore. It’s a rich shade of black with a hint of warmth. Versatile and sophisticated, black is a colour that can enhance any style of home, whether cosy or chic, soft or bold. Incorporating black paint, whether subtly or boldly, can make a significant impact on interior design. This kitchen isn’t just a culinary experience but is designed to make memories with loved ones in the space they call the heart of the home. Enhancing the cooking journey is the Rangemaster Classic Deluxe 110cm Dual Fuel Range Cooking in Black & Brass Trim which has been put alongside the cutting-edge Westin Prime extractor. Having a clear direction of how our clients wanted their kitchen style, they opted for a Nivito Brass sink, Quooker PRO3 Fusion Round Tap in Gold & Quooker Cube and a Quooker Soak Dispenser in Gold. All three items instantly add grandeur to the space, while maintaining a balanced and understated presence. To offset the boldness of the Black Beauty cabinetry, the Calacatta Viola Marble Honed worktops provide a striking contrast with their pristine polished finish. This juxtaposition creates a visually captivating and inviting kitchen space. The intricate features make up the kitchen design and the ones in this space are the decorative cornices and the Armac Martin ‘Bakes’ cabinet handles in burnished brass. Throughout this London townhouse, there was beautiful scribing in each room. Our client wanted it to flow nicely throughout the whole property and added it to the rooms we designed – the kitchen and bedroom. Adding to the theme and grandeur of the building, these decorative cornices look beautiful amongst the high ceilings.

Clever design has been used to maximise functionality in the space available by including a waterfall island with a reduced side to mirror the shape of the room, tall units that reach right up to the ceiling and reduced depth cupboards on one of the walls. The beautifully sleek German black cabinets have been complimented with striking Dekton Trillium stone from Cosentino.

Commissioning the antique dealer, furniture designer and decorator Max Rollitt, the rooms have been re-imagined, including the kitchen and pantry which were designed by Max Rollitt and made by us.

Although compact, the kitchen benefits from generous natural light thanks to the large window positioned above the sink. The Regis French farmhouse sink is centred on this elevation, making the most of the view and reinforcing the practical workflow of the room. It is paired with a Bidbury & Co. Moreton Bridge Tap, chosen for its traditional detailing and everyday usability. To maintain clean lines, the dishwasher is fully integrated to one side of the sink, with waste and recycling bins housed discreetly on the other. This arrangement allows the main working zone to remain efficient without interrupting the visual rhythm of the cabinetry.

A rolling library ladder makes full use of the 4metre ceiling height with extra storage. Many homes in the UK have small kitchens or galley kitchens, but how do you make the most out of that space without spending lots of money building an extension? Be inspired with these small kitchen ideas, to help transform yours into something you can be proud of.

Making the most of your kitchen is particularly important when it is small. A kitchen isn’t a kitchen without the essentials like a fridge, stove and sink so at the very least, your small kitchen needs to have those. Purchase and install integrated appliances or slimline/compact versions to conserve space. When every little bit of extra space makes a difference, this one tip can really help. When it comes to choosing your sink, instead of going for a double sink, why not just have the one butler sink which is not only more practical in a small kitchen, but also very stylish.

Although many kitchens these days opt for an island, depending on the size of the room, this might not be practical. In a smaller kitchen, space is restricted so it’s more important to make sure the essential kitchen features are included in the design first.

Less working space also means less storage space. Rather than having more cupboard storage (which may not be possible) opting for open shelving may be one way to store pots and pans and other kitchen utensils. Shelving, unlike cupboards or cabinets, doesn’t take up floor space so is a great space saving way to store kitchen items. Open shelving is also a great way to display kitchen equipment while giving the illusion of more space. Avoid cluttering the shelves as it will have the reverse effect.

When it comes to styling and decorating your kitchen, your choice of colour can help to open up the space and give it a bigger feel. White always works to create a light, spacious contemporary feel whether in a large or small room. In small spaces, white is the best colour to use to make it feel bigger. It opens the space up and helps to make the room feel brighter. Other bright and energetic colours include yellow and orange, often used in kitchens.

Light is always a great way to make a room feel bigger. Whether it is natural light, or light from another source, using it effectively will make your kitchen seem larger. Adding lights under wall cupboards or at the base of floor units and using spot lighting is a great way to light up your kitchen. Let the sunshine in by keeping your window treatments to a minimum or not having them at all. If possible, adding a skylight and using glass doors will also help to bring more light into the kitchen to create the illusion of more space.

Other ways to make your small kitchen seem bigger is to use mirrored and reflective surfaces. The more light you can get into the room, especially natural light, the more spacious a room feels. Glass tiles, high gloss surfaces and mirrors can help to do this.
