With only 9 sf of built-in counter space we understood these work surfaces needed to be kept free of small appliances and clutter - and that meant extra storage. They wanted an updated, state-of-the-art kitchen but did not want to sacrifice the older, rustic look of the original house design. We supplied and installed Homestead cabinetry with custom paint colors (Silvery Moon and Red) to compliment the house. We also supplied natural soapstone counters with a full soapstone backsplash. Around the island, the homeowner requested seating and also wanted to be able to charge their laptop and cell phones. Custom drawers were installed to accommodate their requests.

Shaker style cabinets and raised and recessed panel cabinets offer a more traditional kitchen cabinet look, while flat panel cabinet doors tend to lend more to the modern and contemporary style. However, going for raised or recessed panel work in a striking colour such as dark blue, green or black can still work with contemporary kitchen ideas. White kitchens can give a sleek and clean feel, but remember you may have to do a bit more cleaning of those cupboard doors if you want everything to stay shiny and fresh.
