Our classic Shaker kitchen in Clapham features a seek Neff induction hob, flush-fitted on the quartz worktop. The chimney is an existing feature in our client's house which was opened up to fit the hob and extractor. We dressed it with a mantle and added an antique mirror splashback (by DecoGlaze) to create a bright cooking niche.

One of the main challenges of this project was the existing fireplace. Though our client was hesitant about major structural alterations, we introduced the idea of embedding the hob within the chimney. Additionally, we incorporated glass-fronted wall cabinets and open shelving above the sink, and extended the antique mirror backsplash all the way up, resulting in a spacious and bright atmosphere.

Our client preferred having the sink positioned against the back wall to keep the island clean of any services. We incorporated an exquisite antique mirror splashback, illuminating the dishwashing zone and offering reflective glimpses of the verdant garden. Freed of any appliances or fixtures, the island serves as both a versatile preparation space and a communal hub, perfect for social gatherings or tasks like homework. Meanwhile, a grand bi-fold dresser gracefully multitasks as a breakfast counter and additional storage.

This Fisher & Paykel French door refrigerator freezer looks great with our Shaker cabinet doors and blends in seamlessly. Introducing a kitchen island is an excellent way to increase your kitchen's storage capacity. When seating is incorporated, the island transforms into a social center, perfect for entertaining guests or working on homework. Despite its compact size in this Clapham kitchen, we've intentionally kept the island free of utilities, making it a versatile addition. The handleless cabinets beneath the seating offer extra storage for infrequently used items.
