Creating a garden in Topanga involved an exciting contextual proposition: how best to achieve a balance between the built environment, the rocky hillside and the surrounding native live oak woodland. Specially selected hardscape consisting of Malibu rock and rough-hewn broken concrete married old with new and provided access and definition. A mixed palette of natives and Mediterranean plants joined garden with existing oaks and toyon trees. The resulting effect is one of a layered experience, a transition from semiformal to natural. A visitor to this garden experiences both the feeling of a residential setting and the beckoning wildland beyond.

The spiky leaves of Maori Queen New Zealand Flax and Agave attenuata rise among Rockrose whose delicate flowers belie its ruggedness. All the plants needed to be hardy in this canyon garden as deer are regular visitors.

Lynn Cairney, Fusion Landscape Design - Design & Landscape Construction, Green With Envy Landsapes - Subcontractors. What a difference. All one level, new planter boxes, coloured cut, grouted and sealed concrete replaces the London pavers and an Accoya deck which is being left to weather off. Accoya weathers to a beautiful soft grey. We were also very fortunate with this project to have a client who just loves her garden and plants.

We designed this sprawling landscape at our Spanish Revival style project in Rancho Santa Fe to reflect our clients' vision of a colorful planting palette to compliment the custom ceramic tile mosaics, hand made iron work, stone and tile paths and patios, and the stucco fire pit and walls. All of these features were designed and installed by Gravel To Gold, Inc.
