Along this busy Novato sidewalk colorful groundcover plants spread from under the skirts of a large California native Deer Grass and a Phlomis. Occasional trimming is all the maintenance these water saving plants need.

The project includes a koi pond/water garden and waterwall. The koi/water garden acts as a "mote" to the entrance of the residence. Thick native Texas limestone leuders create a bridge visitors cross to reach the home. A large glass wall with built in planters on top is settled in the middle of the water garden and greets visitors upon arrival. It also services as a divider between the main house and guest quarters.

A keyhole path paved with decomposed granite gives structure to the space. Brilliant purple spikes of Pride of Madeira and deep red Conebush punctuate the garden. Architectural rosettes of Foxtail Agave mingle with the softer forms of Verbena, Sage and Lavender. The smooth white walls of the Spanish architecture provide a perfect foil to the controlled exuberance of the vegetation.

Inspired by a historic Mediterranean house, this garden was designed to extend the home’s romantic, bohemian qualities to the outdoors. Lush, finely-textured flowering shrubs contrast with bold agaves, giving the garden charm and a sense of permanence.

Many of our mediterranean-climate plants actually like the quick drainage that a gravel mulch provides. Although this garden was less than a year old, it is bursting with healthy new growth. Most of the plants had already doubled in size.

This Mediterranean style landscape compliments the style of the home. The fountain in the motor court creates white noise that is reflected from the stucco walls of the house, covering any noise from the adjacent street.
The infinity pool reflects the water of the bay. Fire bowls on either side of the pool provide ambience at night. Landscape lighting around the entire property enhances the fountain and palms and lights the way along the brick walkways.
