Our client in Annandale had always had a green thumb. He loved his plants and had an extensive collection of pots and plants already in the small courtyard garden.
It was only the courtyard itself that wasn’t working as it was dominated by a large wall cutting the space practically in half. It was also fairly dull and impractical.
The brief as you might imagine was to not only create large planting areas but also have room for an entertaining space and a large water feature and green wall. The key was to keep it simple.
We changed the flooring to a beautiful modular slate and created an in-built seat with raised garden bed packed full of plants.
The in-built seating really helped to maximise the space and also provides a great focal point.
The water feature provides that soothing quality of running water and is also stocked full of fish.
There is also still plenty of room for the pots and the garden can comfortably be called a green oasis from every angle.
This garden design project was a real pleasure to work on and it certainly proves the old adage that size doesn’t matter.

Pavers were used for over 1500 square feet of patios, walkways and the driveway.

Yorkshire Gardens
Nestled in the valley at the foot of Ilkley Moor this long, narrow garden was in desperate need of a makeover. Basically all that was there was a gently sloping lawn which led to the only real item of interest, a vegetable garden built by the client and framed by by a bespoke trellis.
There were also several large piles of reclaimed building materials left over from previous renovation projects that the clients were keen to incorporate into the new design. We were well supplied with Yorkstone flags and walling stone. There was an octagonal patio near the house that was to be retained and this was to inform the design of the rest of the garden.
We were reluctant to divide the garden up using the walling stone so decided to make it into a path. As you can see, this is essentially a drystone wall laid on it’s side. Also, as the garden was prone to waterlogging the path incorporates a land drain which feeds a bog garden further down the slope. Around ninety five percent of the reclaimed materials were used in the new garden, along with almost 40 tonnes of hardcore and 100 oak sleepers.
There is also a large summerhouse/potting shed/greenhouse, complete with green roof. Sedum plugs, grasses and perennials will be entirely cover the roof providing a habitat for numerous little critters.

This client contacted us because he had the idea of building a pond in this specific area beside his deck. He's wheelchair-bound and wanted to be able to see the pond from the lower level windows just as easily as from the upper level balcony.
The fire escape ramp was moved to the side and now he has a bridge to the middle of the pond where he can watch his fish up close, which is what he had wanted from the start.
The biggest challenge was the steep slope of the back yard, which meant we had to raise the back about 5' to keep the pond level.

Mixing sleek hard landscaping with drifts of soft planting, the garden provided a contemporary yet relaxing city haven for a professional couple to unwind in. The garden took its inspiration from the Silent Pool Distillery, located in the beautiful, rural landscape of the Surrey Hills.
A raised, infinity-edged water feature reflected the spring-fed Silent Pool, a source of water for the gin. The quality UK-sourced materials used in the garden included textural Portland stone, Purbeck walling and weathered oak. The intricate gin-making process was represented through the laser-cut copper panels, polished copper distillation helmets and a central ‘citrus peel’ sculpture. Native, multi-stemmed trees created a canopy that provided a layer of privacy from neighouring properties. The planting, in tones of predominantly blues, whites, greens and hints of copper, subtly blends to create a calming ambience.

Stunning contemporary coastal home which saw native emotive plants soften the homes masculine form and help connect it to it's laid back beachside setting. We designed everything externally including the outdoor kitchen, pool & spa.

After having a contemporary extension added, the tired old garden needed a new design to bring it in line with the style and quality of the house. We designed a new stunning contemporary garden with raised composite decking, porcelain paved areas, water feature and wildlife friendly contemporary pond, new lawn and planting borders and bespoke bin and log stores with green roofs

Interesting view of upper pond as you use the barnstone steps and stone bridge to cross the waterfall to lower lawn. Plantings include ‘Angelina’ Sedum, Gaillardia, Coreopsis, Echinacea, ‘Rosita‘ Corylus.

The idea of this project was to create a special environment that stimulates all senses in the human body, an environment that is vibrant and most importantly interactive for all ages. We began by searching for the right materials to create a specific feeling of time and space.
Placement of the water feature was designed by studying how the customer used their home. The waterfalls and streams connect separate outdoor spaces and accommodate for all views outdoors and indoors. A sense of mystery is designed into every detail in this water feature. The layout of the ponds play accordingly with the sun for excellent reflections, and each rock formation has time designed into it.
The environment is inviting, and interactive. Each person that walks out to explore the environment has his or her curiosity rewarded by discovering plant life, trickling streams, and several waterfalls only to be discovered by the inquisitive explorer.

This garden in Offham Village has been transformed with prairie planting with added shrubs and specimens. Soft approach, limited palette cottage style with a modern twist. Colours - Pink, Purple, white with greens of many textures. Added yellow around the cascading pond with Iris pseudacorus planted in the marginal areas. We have used local Kentish ragstone, quarried less than two miles away, to create the retaining walls. This garden has been the venue for our client's 50th wedding anniversary as well as raising funds for charity by opening the gates for the public to enjoy. We continue to work closely with our clients, guiding them on the aftercare required to keep their beautiful garden looking sharp.

Small rear garden in St Albans, Hertfordshire. Gabion cages filled with Purbeck stone were used for the retaining walls which create height and interest. The original pond with the Acer growing over the top was retained, raised slightly and re-lined with fibreglass. A circular path creates movement around the garden which is divided in half with the rear half being devoted to growing a vegetables.
A powder coated aluminium pergola adds sculptural dimension, height and interest.
The raised vegetable beds were created from Oak railway sleepers.
Many plants were retained and re-homed.
