This Pennsylvanian family had just moved into a new neighborhood and were looking to create a comfortable backyard setting with lush shade-garden planting and plenty of stone seating. The outcome was a balance of sun and shady seating areas, lawn play space, and multi-seasonal plant beds that soften and screen parts of the driveway, garage, and neighboring property.

It extends into the gravel drive, announcing the path to the front door. Stone monuments act as natural plinths. The existing Japanese Maple was artfully pruned to allow for the improved access.

Hawkeye Landscape Design We began this project with the idea of making a friendly entryway and social area under the Mulberry tree which provides much needed shade in this hot, mountainous area. The 'red fescue' meadow grass has a cooling effect and the agaves reduce the need for excess water and maintenance. The backyard has a covered dining area with a corner lounge and fireplace. The large barbecue offers a cantilevered counter for entertaining. The waterfall into the pool is surrounded with bamboo and plantings that emulate the hillside beyond the property. The permeable paving and mix of Vitex and Olive trees provide shade for smaller seating areas to enjoy the variety of succulents throughout the garden

This lush and colorful hillside was once a barren, dry slope full of weeds and briars. We created the river rock stone terraced walls mainly to retain the truckloads of good garden soil that we added so that this hill could be planted successfully. The curved design is very attractive and the rustic style blends well with the log cabin architecture of the house. We also added large boulders nearby. You can see a few to the far right. This garden in Offham Village has been transformed with prairie planting with added shrubs and specimens. Soft approach, limited palette cottage style with a modern twist. Colours - Pink, Purple, white with greens of many textures. Added yellow around the cascading pond with Iris pseudacorus planted in the marginal areas. We have used local Kentish ragstone, quarried less than two miles away, to create the retaining walls. This garden has been the venue for our client's 50th wedding anniversary as well as raising funds for charity by opening the gates for the public to enjoy. We continue to work closely with our clients, guiding them on the aftercare required to keep their beautiful garden looking sharp.
