Phantom Screens
Located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, this home was designed to blend with surrounding forests and ocean, and maximize the southern exposure of the property.
As one of the homeowners is highly allergic to bee and wasp stings, they needed a screen solution for their patio for summer months. The homeowners did not want a permanent screen room as that would have blocked their views from the house towards the ocean.
Through consultation with the architect, builder, and homeowner, two surface mount Executive motorized retractable screens were installed to provide insect protection when required. When the screens are retracted, the deck returns to an open, unhindered living space with no obstructions to the spectacular ocean-front view. When in use, the space becomes a safe haven from insects. Phifer’s TuffScreen mesh provides 55% sun control/UV blockage and 45% openness, keeping pests at bay with minimal impact on outdoor views.
