Traditional Entertaining Garden, Danbury Essex

Traditional Garden, Essex

Our clients had just finished a large extension to the rear of the house and now needed the outside to be completed. The ground to the rear of the house was too high and so we set about removing 360 tons of soil. This then gave way to a larger, more accessible parking area. A feature here was a red brick built wall with a curved top and a lion face waterspout. Simple Cotswold gravel completed the drive and an Indian sandstone pathway surrounded the house on three sides. The rear elevation was designed to have a raised patio with planting inset, to soften the expanse of paving required. It is important to get the scale right on patios and all too often they are too small for the size of the property. Planting within the patio gave the ultimate finish, unifying the patio with the rest of the garden. To the side of the house a bistro area was created to catch the sun later in the day and enjoy a cool glass of wine. Further features included extending the existing deck and finishing it with a stainless steel wire rope handrail, building a breeze house African hut for an alternative entertaining area and a brick built pizza oven with chimney.
