In our 60s and married for 7 years, my husband and I decided we wanted to make my house into 'our' house. We love where we live, but realised that our 1900 semi needed an element of future proofing with more living space downstairs. What do we do? A conservatory? A 'lean to'? We talked about what we wanted from an extension and even drew some of our own designs. Never ones to rush decisions, we dallied. Finally, we decided to look for an architect, an unprecedented step for both of us. We read reviews and looked locally, wanting someone who understood Devon and our period property but also had experience. We found Mark Muir and liked the clear, stepped approach outlined on his website. So we made the decision to contact him for a no commitment consultation. He arrived on his bike and just listened to us, taking in what we liked and what we are like! We found Mark to be thoughtful and sympathetic to our ideas, but offering the touch of pzazz we are after. We have now progressed from the first design, reviews and edits, conversations via zoom and have just gained planning permission from our local authority. On to the next step!
