Matt designed and project managed a ground floor side return extension for us and reconfigured our existing house layout. Why did we chose Matt? We liked Matt's creativity and energy. He has an a instinctive feel for light and space that results in designs that are both innovative and practical. During the planning and building process Matt always kept us involved and informed and meet all the deadlines. The final result exceeded our expectations and it has improved the quality of our lives. We have recommended Matt to friends.

Matt Clay has exceptional flair and talent particularly in wonderfully imaginative use of light and space .He is also a delightful person to work with and establishes great relationships with everyone because he is calm and reasonable but also strong and influential..He is thorough, disciplined and rigorous , anticipating issues and managing them for you and fending off the stresses that a big building project causes. We could not be more delighted with the wonderful home he has created for us nor with this brilliant architect with whom we have had the good fortune to work - and who is now an enduring friend.

We weren't necessarily sure of the value of appointing an architect when we did our first property renovation in 2012, but we could never have imagined the difference that's been made to our lopsided listed building. Not only did MCA always have a calm hand on the tiller, helping us deal with planning and conservation and all the other associated beaurocratic stuff, they flooded the house with so much light, space and joy. Thanks so much - you completely changed our perception of design!

We used Matthew Clay Architects to design and manage a kitchen extension in our Victorian terrace house. MCA designs were innovative and achieved exactly the feel of the extension we were hoping to achive. MCA helped us successfully navigate the council's planning permission torture and offered invaluable advice and tweaks to ensure that our application was successful. MCA managed the build, helped us interview and choose a builder and then worked closely with the builders throughout. During the build they offered many ideas on materials for use in the build which complemented the existing house and garden and really made the difference to having a standard extension and a fantastic one. We found MCA to be consistently professional, friendly and dedicated to making sure that we ended up with the build that we wanted. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone else (and indeed have on several occasions).

Matt was calm and capable. I approached him to help with designs for a side return extension in a fairly typical, slightly wonky victorian terrace. He did a great job of explaining things and talking me through what was possible vs what was viable! He was also responsive to queries and completed work in good time. The outcome has been a space transformed from dark and pokey to light and open. He suggested sliding doors instead of bifolds to optimise the view and I love them. Doing an extension can be stressful but it has transformed how I live. Matt's design - optimising light via a large panel of glass in the ceiling and big sliding doors makes such a difference despite being north facing.
