I had a great experience working with Peter on a small project to design two bedrooms, one of which also needed to accommodate a home office station. Peter has offered a very practical and well thought out solution. He quickly understood my needs and translated them into a design that truly reflected my lifestyle. What stood out most was his attentive and active listening — he took the time to fully understand my requirements and priorities before proposing solutions. Peter is also very punctual and easy to work with from a planning and coordination perspective. All agreed deliverables were always provided promptly, and he consistently followed up after meetings to make sure nothing was missed, and summarize an action plan. I would highly recommend Peter and his team to anyone looking for a thoughtful, reliable, and highly professional designer.

Peter Culley is one of those rare gems who can both envision optimal solutions to your needs and then execute with precision. I have not yet had an architectural project to employ the range of his expertise, but he sure came through with a perfect solution for a daunting, tricky task I couldn't find anyone to remedy until a friend introduced me to Peter - just the person to come to the rescue! I was in a panic because my 300 year old castle doors I had spent months retrofitting, refurbishing and fitting had been painted with a product that basically covered the natural beauty of the ancient wood with plastic waterproofing paint. First, Peter's steady style calmed me down, reassuring me that he either already knew of a solution or would find one. He was meticulous with his research, his communication, his follow through. He and a wonderful trusted assistant showed up and applied the special product to strip the doors without any damage. By applied, I don't mean once, done and dusted. Peter stayed throughout the process and pointed out every inch that needed re-applications until every vestige of the old product was gone. Then they cleaned up entirely, having made sure all along the way that the products left no staining on the stone walls or underlying ceramic tiles. Peter then took the time and care to make sure I applied the best solution for waterproofing while maintaining the aesthetic he knew I wanted (we went with Tung Oil). He walked us through that process, too. More adjectives? Generous is an understatement to describe Peter. I've already used meticulous but I'm going to use it again...and kind - Peter is a good hearted human who is a pleasure to interact with. He's a win-win-win!

Peter of Spatial Design Bureau is working with me to reimagine my kitchen extension. It’s a complicated space and needs some intelligent, unusual solutions to gaining light, especially as my property is in the far north of Scotland, so maximising light is imperative in the winter months. Peter has a passion for skylights and having seen some of his previous design solutions on this matter I am happy to let him unleash his creative brilliance to come up with a solution. I am the incredibly lucky second-owner of a house re-imagined by Peter in 2018. His incredible functional design makes it punch wildly above its weight class with its ultra-efficient layout, open spaces, and incredible natural light. Every design element feels extremely intentional not just for its beauty but also for living in every day. The massive double-level balcony allows seamless transition between the master bedroom and an private outdoor space, as well as between the kitchen/living area and an open outdoor entertaining space. Oh, and theres the absolutely jaw-dropping view that he opened up from our kitchen and top floor balcony.

I had met Peter socially before we approached Spatial Affairs Bureau to design our house so I knew we would have a great rapport and that he would fully understand what we wanted to achieve with the design. He spent time discussing how we like to live and the most important elements required from the space. Our home consists of two Victorian coast guard cottages facing the Thames estuary that had been badly knocked into one house resulting in a collection of small awkward rooms. Our brief was to create a far better flow of the space, design a contemporary side extension and maximise the views over the estuary. Peter and his team excel in creating light and space and the design really exploits the relatively small footprint and brings the property up to the standards and expectations of modern living. The resulting plans include large frameless corner windows with far reaching views, increased light which will pour through sculptural skylights and a space which despite being mostly open plan has very distinct and functional areas separated by a central staircase and changes in floor levels. Peter has a great imagination and wonderful vision and the resulting plans definitely incorporate ideas we would never have come up with ourselves! The entire team at Spatial Affairs Bureau was very professional, they always delivered on time and were quick to get back to us with any amendments or answer any questions. Peter Culley totally transformed the outdoor courtyard space at my East London home with gorgeous planting and a wonderful outside kitchen all cleverly packaged in a dark stained cedar shingle box. He has magically turned a rather dreary yard into a functional and lush haven! It’s added so much character and space to the house. I’m delighted with the results.

Working with Peter Culley was both eye-opening and mind expanding. It was my first time working with an architect and we were transforming a ramshackle Venice bungalow into something quite different. From the start, Peter knew how to get the best out the confusing space and turned a jumble of rooms into a continuous flow between different sections and the yard. The functionality of the modular layout was accompanied by a series of surprises and a sense of humor. Peter was a reassuring if provocative guide. I paid close attention to the plans and renderings that he shared throughout the process, and thought I had understood the house we were building, but years later I would discover a new perspective or catch the sunlight cutting an unexpected line through the sky light. The house revealed itself over time. Attention to detail - and to my questions - was exceptional and the whole process was stimulating and enjoyable with the bonus of somewhere to live at the end. The house has seen it all - from picnics to paella parties to extended family visits and lockdown - and has always provided exactly the backdrop that was required.
