“We hired NorSon to design and build our vacation home in the lakes area of northern Minnesota and couldn't be happier. We had admired some of their projects featured in area publications and were impressed by a number of projects we saw (via their lawn signs) while driving around the area. We had heard stories from friends and acquaintances who had hired other area contractors only to find that they (or their subs) would go fishing or snowmobiling when the weather was good, despite promises to meet certain deadlines. But everything we heard about NorSon was good. Also influencing our decision to choose NorSon was the fact that I'm a design junkie who's concerned about design details, and we would be building our year-round lake home from a distance. With my husband and I both working full-time-plus and having 2 active boys, it was going to be impossible to make the two hour drive on a frequent basis, mid-week, for site inspections. Hence, we wanted to work with a reputable contractor known for having a good design eye, who doesn't cut corners, delivers on their promises, has enough clout to get the subs to show up on time, and takes pride in paying attention to every detail. NorSon fit the bill! We love our lake home! We've now spent many weekends there for 11 years, year-round, and it still looks like new--despite our sons running in and out as young kids with muddy feet and in wet swimsuits and, later, as teenagers and college students visiting with tons of friends in tow. Perhaps the best sign of our confidence in NorSon is the fact that we have since hired them three times to complete additional projects. They've designed and built a front stoop outside our main entrance in 2005, and finished our lower level in 2006 by adding 2 more bedrooms, a bath and rec room (all previously cut for budget purposes). And this past winter (January 2012), we hired NorSon, again, to build a detached double garage with overhead sleeping loft--strategically planned (by me) as a future attraction for our college boys, their (hopeful) future spouses and grandkids. If anyone's looking for a quality builder in the north/central Minnesota lakes area, we unconditionally recommend NorSon. They may be a little more expensive than other contractors, but it is WELL worth the investment! PS: My father and sister are both architects. Each time they visit our lake place they admire some of the interesting finish details, the quality of construction (top-notch), and the energy saving products and techniques NorSon employed. PSS: Ignore the furniture in the photos--just about all hand-me-downs. That's our next project! PSSS: My exterior photos of the cabin and detached garage (shown unfinished) are horrible! They were shot for insurance purposes in early spring (dead grass and no leaves on trees) with no outdoor furnishings or landscape. Yuck. They are motivating me to take some nice shots this summer!”
