“We hired MAK Design + Build to remodel our house and we can't speak highly enough of them. They are a small company, so they are very hands-on and accessible. They are thoughtful, creative, intelligent, perceptive and extremely hard-working. The design they developed was perfectly suited to our taste and our needs and the guys who did the construction were outstanding craftsman. The same guys worked at our house every day so we became very comfortable with them. For other crafts like tile, stone and paint, they use the same subcontractors for many jobs so they have good relationships with them and a lot of confidence in their skills. The project management was also great; consistent, attentive and accessible. The office staff was friendly, professional, helpful and available whenever we needed anything. The project ended two years ago, so we have had two years to review MAK's work. We literally don't have a single complaint about the process or the product. If there were 10 stars, that would be our rating.”

The initial quote was very reasonable and detailed, giving us a lot of flexibility and insights into the various trade offs we could make. We hired Stephen to design a master bed/bath addition that has ADA-accessibility for Grandpa, as well as a kitchen & dining remodel on our small, ~925 sq ft, 2 bed, 1 bath 1935 cottage. We are still in the process of finalizing the design and are getting ready to hire a contractor for the project. Stephen has been great to work with so far. He is friendly, thorough, thoughtful and very creative. “We contacted Lauren Vaage after exploring an Ikea upgrade to our circa 1960s kitchen. We realized that trying to fit an Ikea “package” into our space was forcing mediocre materials into a less than optimal layout. We looked for help and based on the beautiful and creative work we saw on his web page we decided to contact Lauren. He helped us re-examine our goals for our home and to think more holistically about how we wanted to organize the kitchen so as to better integrate it with our outdoor space and our open plan living area. Lauren brought in experts to help us upgrade our HVAC and to plan for a future solar addition. Lauren’s vision and artistic approach to the project led to what seems in retrospect to a relatively simple solution that made our kitchen remodel into so much more. Lauren re-oriented our kitchen within the same space, adding a mere 27 additional square feet, but in so doing completely transformed our home, integrating the outdoor space with the kitchen and living area and allowing natural light to connect the spaces in a way that makes our home feel entirely new. Over the course of the project, we watched Lauren invest his time and attention to every step in the journey, turning the unexpected twists and turns of a remodel into added value.
