We have been working with Callender Howorth over the past 2 years on our villa new build project in the South of France, due to be completed October 2024. We mainly knocked down our old villa, keeping only the exterior walls. In this region, it’s not uncommon to have delays due to administration, permits etc. and we were no exception. However throughout this process the entire team at Callender Howorth provided us with solid support, professional service and flexibility Their high level of service, patience and responsiveness would have been difficult to find in another design firm. The entire team stayed on top of the project at all times, making frequent visits to the site and to other contractors for coordination of works. Their interior design and space planning from their London offices was excellent, thanks Michael!! And Howorth himself – with the keenest of eyes and greatest of talent was so much fun to work with. Him and his team worked tirelessly to create beautiful spaces throughout the villa, whilst always respecting our personal style. I would recommend Callender Howorth hands down to anyone. Additionally would hate to imagine what direction the project would have gone without their involvement.

We used Mark and his team for two full scale renovations and couldn’t be happier. We also recommended them to friends who were thrilled with the interior design of their house. Mark and his team, (in particular architect Michael Lawrence) did first rate work, designing spaces that were both beautiful but also perfectly functional and comfortable for our family. In both cases they created totally new layouts, optimizing space and views. They managed the construction process brilliantly, through meticulous planning and oversight of our builders, keeping the contractors to a tight schedule. Their interior design was very much in step with our wish list (they really listen to their clients) but a million times better. They literally reimagined empty, gutted spaces and transformed them into beautiful, airy, stylish and extremely functional homes, while being a lot of fun to work with. We recommend them with enthusiasm and gratitude. (Two projects done for us in 2017 and 2019 respectively. Friends’ house done in 2021).

I was matched with Callender Howorth on Houzz and had a disappointing experience. The team was unprofessional and inattentive to basic details, which was surprising since this company markets itself as "high end." They consistently imposed their ideas without regard for my preferences, wasting an excessive amount of my time during calls by revisiting the same topics, asking redundant questions, and presenting poorly thought-out designs that were nowhere near aligned with my vision. It felt as if they weren't even listening or taking notes during our meetings. During these calls, in Mark's absence, his team cited their heavy workload with other Callender Howorth projects as an excuse for the issues encountered. Additionally, Mark failed to disclose that a lead designer had relocated to Australia, expecting me to accommodate her timezone. When I raised this issue, he responded dismissively, making me feel uncomfortable for even bringing it up. Hiring a British firm was important to me for a reason. Echoing the experience of another reviewer, I also encountered a frustrating lack of responsiveness and helpfulness from the team, with many of my queries going unanswered for days or weeks and receiving ideas from the team that lacked thoughtfulness. When I raised my concerns with Mark, he responded defensively, attacking me instead of addressing the issues at hand. It became abundantly clear that Mark does not handle feedback well. Consequently, I decided to terminate my engagement with Callender Howarth. Afterward, Mark initially refused to refund the pre-paid funds for design work, leading to a prolonged and uncomfortable resolution process. This confirmed that my decision to end the engagement was right. While I anticipate a critical response to my review, similar to what was left for the reviewer "JB" below, I want to emphasize that I intentionally waited over a year to write this review to ensure objectivity and remove any emotional bias. I am simply sharing my experience for others to consider when selecting a designer.

I was introduced to Callender Howorth by a friend in South of France to do my villa. I wanted a creative company but also have everything completely managed for the villa. Mark Howorth and his team have done a fantastic job. They are really good at what they do. their build team were excellent which is rare in the South of France! Very Happy.

We bought our listed house in Hampstead just over 2 years ago. We chose Callender Howorth as they have much experience with the design and renovation of listed buildings. We are now moved in after extensive works to the house. We are simply over the moon with the results and just so pleased with all that Callender Howorth have done for us.

From start to finish we enjoyed having Callender Howorth work on our project. We were not sure what we wanted and Callender Howorth's team was very quick at catching up what we liked and what he could do. We purchased our townhouse because of the stunning location above Nice in the south of France. We thought there might be something interesting to do but couldn't have imagined the result. We love our new home. It's very modern yet it still has it's style with an original rocks wall in the main room, and kept the fireplace in the bedroom upstairs.

Mark and his team were really great throughout the process of our refurb. They tailored the design closely to our requests and filled in the gaps when we were open-minded. We're really pleased with the result. Our living room is a place that the whole family loves to spend time in.

We used Callender Howorth to design and oversee the gut renovation of our apartment in Nice. Mark Howorth was recommended by a local realtor who had seen one of Mark's completed projects in Nice. We are convinced that the decision to hire Callender Howorth was the single greatest factor in the success of our project. Mark and his team transformed a dark, boxy and very dated space into a spacious, light, highly functional and sophisticated home, which showcases the glorious sea view and contained just the right amount of "wow." Mark brought to the project an uncanny ability to optimize space and functionality. His design opened the sea view to all major areas of the apartment and made the space look and feel much larger by removing walls, re-apportioning rooms and creating a series of unified spaces that flowed seamlessly with plenty of storage. Mark and the team had great style-their use of high quality materials and selection of furniture, colors and textures created an elegant, sophisticated space that was also comfortable casual and bright. Mark's sense of color and texture was that of a true artist. He highlighted the sea view by setting it off with light, natural and neutral colors and textures but accentuated the blue through strategically placed rugs, cases and a dramatic evocative blue accent wall that is loved by everyone who comes into the home. Mark also used dramatic and sophisticated lighting design, to create different moods. Callender Howorth not only provided exceptional design work but also provided excellent project management. Although we had renovated homes before, we were never able to be truly "hands off" as the designers, architects and contractors required close supervision to ensure we got what we wanted in the time and budget agreed. This was not our experience with Callender Howorth. They were organized, reliable, on top of everything, anticipated issues, and delivered on what they promised and managed professionally the contractor and subcontractors for the job. They brought in a first rate English speaking/run construction firm with deep experience in Nice. Between Callender Howorth and our Contractor, we felt like we had the "A team" whom we could trust completely to get the job done on time, on budget and as specified. Because of the distance for the the US, we used Callender Howorth to source all furniture and fittings and housewares. This was a God sent, as we were able to get off the plane and walk into a fully rennovated and equipped apartment just five months from design inception. We will never forget the feeling of walking into the sunning finished space for the first time. The work of Mark and Callender Howorth went way beyond our dreams and expectations. We can not recommend them highly enough.

I bought a house in Marylebone that had lots of what I wanted but needed some creative thinking. I worked with Mark Howorth and his team at Callender Howorth for over a year on the designs and build. Am delighted with the end result. Mark interpreted my taste and style perfectly - he knew I wanted a contemporary home that could be used for both entertaining and relaxing. On his suggestion we removed a number of internal walls and added floor to ceiling glass windows facing into the courtyard - which really helped open up the space and make it light and bright. I love the kitchen which works for our lifestyle. I didn’t think that I would use this space as much as I do – the flow from kitchen into the courtyard or into the open dining area is great in summer especially. Where I think Mark really made the difference was with the personal touches - personalized art in particular which I wouldn't have found with mark and the team. in total - was weighing up whether or not to use a designer or wing it myself - total no brainer in retrospect - enjoyed the experience and so glad I used CH.

Callender Howorth provided us with a full design and project management service for an extension and full refurb of our maisonette. They liaised with planners, architects, building contractors, kitchen companies and advised on sourcing of materials and interior furnishings. The project took 1 year from conception to completion. The people at CH were creative, professional and importantly a pleasure to work with. I would and have recommended them successfully to friends.
