“We had a great experience working with Dennis Smothers. We had gotten quotes from a couple of different construction companies and we ultimately decided to go with Benchmark because of his competitive quote. Dennis was very responsive and was committed to making sure everything was done to our satisfaction. On those occasions when things didn't go according to plan, Dennis always made it right. We were very pleased with the work done on the main level (complete kitchen remodel/expansion, bath, hardwood floor installation, replacement of doors, sliding glass doors, 2 sets of stairs, incorporation of main level laundry center) and basement (re-configuring the bonus room to add a separate entrance to the laundry and to add a closet to the bonus room so it would count as a 5th bedroom rather than just a bonus room). We came in on budget and decided to move forward with expanding our master bath. We took down a wall that previously divided the bathroom and a closet to create a more spacious and elegant ensuite master bath. The home I (Lori) have lived in for 13 years feels like a new house, and my husband (John) and I are thoroughly enjoying it. This renovation achieved our goals and exceeded our expectations. We plan to hire Dennis to do at least one additional project (decking) in the coming months. “BMR Homes is my remodeling choice for over 5 years. We've collaborated on two award-winning design projects. First, Chris Youngs and his crew converted a small unusable attic space to a spacious 15' x 20' light-filled design studio. The second project realized my design of an addition to replace an aging deck. This complicated custom addition features a 20' square deck and a spacious entertainment / media / sunroom with a 16' ceiling, 14 windows, motorized shades, custom lighting and a media center. All of these systems are remotely controlled through Wi-Fi, iPhone and iPad. This complex project was completed to my specifications and serves well for professional entertaining, meetings with my design students and family gatherings. BMR’s crafts persons responded to my needs as owner - designer working hard to make real the details specified. The challenge of realizing (in steel and wood framing) a complexly shaped 21’ x 26’ x 16’ high room on a steeply sloping lot was met with energy on the part of the carpenters and resulted in success within 1/4”. The interplay of as many as five “sub-contractors” in one week was orchestrated without conflict or confusion. Budget and deadline were followed and as designs changed, I was kept completely informed. Chris’s choices on electrical, insolation, stonework and media sub-contractors facilitated to project’s positive outcome. Real highlights are the “super-solid” deck, the gutters, the colored concealed trough and outdoor lighting, super efficient insolation, the “Hardy Board” exterior siding and the “mini – split - system” HVAC system.
