“We hired Norman Rankow and his accomplished team at Colonial Reproduction to build a new home for us on Martha's Vineyard. The experience could not have been more positive, or gone more smoothly. We couldn't be happier. Despite the almost 3,000 miles between us, and this new construction, Norman and the team kept us informed with regular updates, photos, videos every step of the way. The project was completed under budget and they made extra effort to complete it months ahead of schedule which allowed us to enjoy our first summer in the house, instead of the scheduled Oct move-in. Through the process, we became and remain friends, and whenever an issue arises (though we've never had anything serious...they did a rock-solid job), Colonial is always an easy phone call away to fix any problems that come up. They're great people. They're great builders. And they are a pleasure to work with. We LOVE the house they built for us, and remain grateful to Colonial for creating our dream home.”

“Following a competitive bidding process, my wife and I hired Cheney Brothers to build our vacation home in Nantucket. We had previously built four homes so we were somewhat experienced with this type of project. It was a large project involving an architecturally designed four bedroom home and a detached garage with an efficiency apartment on the second floor. To sum up our experience, Steve Cheney and Cheney Brothers exceeded our expectations in every respect. The quality of the workmanship was outstanding. For example, our house had extensive interior woodwork and built ins required., and all was done with outstanding quality. We were even impressed with the quality of house framing. Steve kept everything on track even though the schedule was somewhat aggressive. He worked well in selecting and managing all the subcontractors ensuring the quality of their work while staying on budget. He worked seamlessly with our architects and interior designer and they performed like a very cohesive team to assure the success of the project. Steve was a very effective communicator including being a good listener. We touched base at least once a week during the year long project and he helped our review by sending pictures every week. We only felt the need to visit the site three times during this year long effort because of his effective communication and our confidence in his management of the project. After we moved in, Steve continued to cheek in and does so to this day. Any follow up work or small defects have been handled efficiently and with a good sense of urgency. Overall, Steve and his team displayed a great sense of pride in our project, and acted as if they were building this home for themselves. Their attitude made all the difference.”

“My lat updatede husband was an architect who used Humphrey instruction on many jobs in Nantucket. When he died and I noticed the deck needed to be replaced, I asked Michael to do it. Turned out that my husband (like the shoemaker) had done lite to no maintenance in the 30 years since the house was built. There was rot everywhere ...it turned into a major rehab job from floor joists to windows to shingles. At one point after 3 months of rehabilitation work , I consulted with Michael about his availability and he redid the bathrooms as well. I have a "new" house , all completed on time. Neighbors who watched h the progress have stopped me to say they never observed any crew more professional and neater. I can not recommend Humphrey Construction too highly. And as an aside since I wasn't on island I was updated constantly with photos.”

“In 2005 ,after interviewing several builders, we hired Stephens and Co. to build both a new garage and then, in the following year, to perform a total rehab of our summer vacation home. The total cost of both projects exceeded $1 million. To see what kind of work they did we first had them build the garage and then the following year , because we were so pleased with this work we had them do the home rehab. In both instances we were very pleased with the quality of their work. We found the company to be very reliable. They performed the work very, very well and did so in a timely manner . We had no ( zero) problems even though we lived in Pennsylvania and all the work they performed was on Nantucket and we could only inspect the construction on a very infrequent basis, in the case of the garage, only once during the entire job yet it came out just the way we wanted. I found the owner-Will Stephens- to be very honest, professional and helpful with suggestions and recommendations throughout the construction period. His crew was pleasant, respectful and also did excellent work. Clearly, we were very pleased with everything they did and highly recommend them.Seven years after completion our house and garage have had only one minor problem and Will fixed it within a few days after I brought it to his attention.
