Cranberryhome prides itself on its high standard of design creativity and fit out with its carefully sourced suppliers and trades. It is essential for us as professionals to have a good working relationship with clients, and this truly has to be both ways. On this occasion, the client was totally overbearing, unreasonable and erratic. This client review has a number of misleading statements and inaccurate information such as the date of project which was May 2023 not 2024.


Mr & Mrs Mitchell engaged us to assist with designing the interiors of their property in Northamptonshire, the scope included bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms and principle living areas. The client had already engaged with an architect to draw up plans for the entire 3 storey detached 580m2 property.

It was clear from the outset that the original plans for the interiors needed substantial innovation in space planning which we set out to do for the 7 bedroom 7 bathroom house, this was in addition to our normal agreed design services.

The client failed to give us sufficient notice, preferring to ring us to say that the builders had already started. This was our first red flag. That said, we promised to do our best to start design work ahead of our schedules at the expense of all our other clients at the time. Right through the project, the client disagreed with our professional advice on design and layouts, discounted our designs relating to the brief and insisted that their project was our only priority. We received calls and texts out of office hours, demands for unscheduled meetings on site, rude and offensive emails and messages throughout.

To assist them trying to design their interiors, our Director even gave some of his time on holiday to move the kitchen designs on. The client wanted a traditional kitchen design which we provided, even finding a supplier that could deliver stock next day, our alternative was a bespoke option which the client decided they could not wait for. Client refused to meet us at suppliers to assess quality of materials and final choices.

We spent some 74 hours on the project including over 110 emails, provided detailed plans for each room, kitchen and utility designs, stair design, lighting plans and electrics and sourced materials for finishes. Essentially we were about half way through the design process when we found too many obstructions to our design process and any synergy was lost. We had no option but to withdraw our design services from this project due to the lack of respect, trust and lack of commitment.

What then happened was a quite shocking series of abusive phone calls, visits to our Directors home address out of hours and then sending around “suited professionals” to threaten us to pay back the work that we had already completed, something that we cannot undo. In reality, the amount of hours we put into the project far exceeded the amount we received to date by over £900 which we chose to waive in the circumstances. On reflection, no professional design company can operate with intimidation, rudeness and lack of trust, this is why we took the professional decision to withdraw our services and wish the Mitchells the very best with the remainder of their project.
