“Between 2012 and 2013 we built a house with a tight landscaping budget. Rachel was involved from the beginning and came up with beautiful, detailed, deer-proof plans for our 3.15 acres, focusing on native plants that don't require watering (once they're established) and coordinating with our builders. She purchased and planted most of the plants (we purchased and planted whatever worked for us, and she made up the difference) and helped coordinate other services for the hardscaping (concrete curbs around two self-contained areas), bark dusting and shrubbery-clearing. She even wrote detailed instructions for the subsequent steps and maintaining the landscaping. She remains interested and helpful and is very responsive to our questions. We consider ourselves very lucky to have her help!”

“Glenn Nardelli and the whole Pistils Landscape Design + Build crew were excellent. I would highly recommend this company and my wife and I plan to use them again in the future. They did a project for us last spring that included sod demo and re-grading of our yard in preparation for install of large modern raised steel retaining wall planter beds with custom architectural paver concrete steps. This was phase 1 of our two-phase backyard makeover. The design process was a fun collaboration and Glenn met with us on site multiple times to fine-tune the final plans before we broke ground. Glenn is personable, has excellent attention to detail, and really cared that the final project turned out exactly as we envisioned. The project went as planned, both time and budget. The crew was very professional and respectful of our home and neighbors. A year later, we still couldn’t be happier with the outcome. The steel retaining beds have such a clean, precise, modern look, yet the oxidized metal adds a rich, organic textural interest that makes our plants just “pop.” The end product was better than hoped for and we get tons of compliments. “We worked with Landscape East and West on a complete backyard remodel this past year. Our designer was Christin and we are very pleased with the final result. Christin did a great job finding out what our goals for our landscape were and collaboratively designing a covered and open patio area as well as green space. We have yet to see the full effect of the new plantings, but love the plants with winter interest that were suggested. “Alana and Melanie did outstanding work for us on a large-scale landscape design, planting plan, and installation for our home located in an open, woodland setting in Portland’s West Hills. The scope of the project included deck revisions, gravel pathways, planters, stairways, and five planting zones with a wide variety of perennials, shrubs and trees. The result is a stunning setting in which we’ll enjoy our outdoor space for many years to come. In addressing our project, Alana and Melanie understood our wishes for a landscape that would highlight our home’s features along with its natural setting. Throughout the process, they were always interested in and responsive to our ideas. Detailed and easy to interpret design plans and photographs of all proposed plants were provided in a very timely manner. Alana and Melanie did wonders dealing with the challenges finding lovely, habitat friendly plants that will stand up to the ever present deer who graze in our yard. They helped us plan our site and select plants suited to the new climate stressors occurring in the Pacific NW.
