“We had a problem front garden - a smallish sized, irregular plot which needed a complete overhaul and redesign. To complicate matters, it is north-facing and on an incline. Katie was unfazed by the task and made great suggestions for a stylish focal structure which would be in keeping with the house and the lane. We were involved at all stages of the design process, and Katie listened to our suggestions and built on our ideas. She was very responsive to our questions and flexible with amendments. She made suggestions for planting in line with our chosen colour scheme, and provided photos of all the chosen flowers and shrubs. Katie's team was first-rate: professionals who arrived on time, were really hard-working and polite, and removed every trace of rubbish. They worked flat out, and completed the job ahead of schedule. “We presented Cool Gardens with a blank canvas but high expectations! Peter and I were building a contemporary upside-down house in Essex. Upside-down so we could enjoy the views over London from our living space on the first floor to the front aspect. The rear garden is a small plot but our idea was to link the first floor to the ground with a mixture of steps, decking and planters, incorporating areas to dine, relax and catch the sun throughout the day. With bi-fold doors to the front and back, we imagined our garden to be an extension of our main room. Mark from Cool Gardens was not daunted at all by this concept and produced 3D drawings that we could all work on. We viewed their prize winning show garden at Hampton Court and visited other gardens project to view plants and sawn York stone, which was the medium that Mark had suggested for both front and back gardens. Having little to no knowledge of plants, we relied totally on Cool Garden’s advice. From bamboo, acers, tree ferns, ornamental grasses and a pear tree, their list was endless. And yet our demands increased: lighting, water features and so it went on! Three years later we moved into our new build and the house and the gardens gel. The shapes, colours and varieties of plants complement the stark white walls, York stone and decking. In the front garden, we currently have a colour burst of purple, and in the evening, it’s all magical! Hidden lighting creates shapes from the plants and the steps, with the highlight being a pure, simple but hypnotic water feature! Thank you, Mark and Cool Gardens, for creating our dream garden!”
