“Robert Khazzam designed our rooftop garden in early 2014, and the installation was completed in fall of 2014. He did an amazing job and my wife and i have been absolutely thrilled with the result. We came to Robert with only some preliminary ideas of what we wanted out of the garden. He developed a beautiful design that absolutely transformed the rooftop. The design made great use of the existing space, using curved plant beds to separate the space into two different areas, but keeping a flowing, open feel to the entire roof. He was very receptive to our thoughts and suggestions as the design progressed, but added a number of features that we hadn't thought of and integrated all of these features into a unified design with a polished, professional look. Robert had a very deep knowledge of the plants that were included in the garden. He included plants that worked very well for the climate and location, and as a result the plants have absolutely thrived. He intentionally included different layers of plants that bloom at various times from the spring to fall, so we've been fascinated to see the garden constantly change as the seasons evolve. He also had a thorough understanding of the requirements for installing the garden, so that the installation went very smoothly and the finished garden matched the design perfectly. My wife and I had looked at options for finishing our roof for years, and we have often commented that we never thought it would turn out as well as it did. I would highly recommend Robert for designing a garden or outdoor space, and we're very grateful for the work he did for us.”

“Iris has been the landscaping professional for both a NY city balcony and an East End home. The balcony is challenging, along the Hudson so very strong winds, and home has a lot of different shading issues to deal with. Iris has been the key to making this all work. First, very thoughtful and knowledgeable on the initial design. Knows her plants and has a good vision of where to go. Second, excellent on execution. Shows up when she says, gets the work done in a timely way, and leaves the place looking great. She is always accessible on email and phone, comes when needed, and has a deep bench of folks she works with. Third, great pride in her work. Comes by outside of necessary appointments to check up on the plantings, and has a critical eye so if something is not right she stays on top of it. For us, landscaping is very important and we spend a lot of time and resources on it, and Iris is a great quarterback for what we do. The forms asks for a project date, but after initially getting to know Iris (and replacing another landscaper with her), we have had her give us seasonal contracts for 2012, 2013, and again will in 2014.”

“Green Jay Landscaping most recently completed a woodland pond renovation for us, complete with waterfall and plantings and including a bog garden for water filtration. We love it! The waterfall is lovely and they stand fully behind their work. Jay has also performed a lot of regular landscaping work for us. “Our first project with Esswein Associates entailed a total redesign and construction of our backyard and pool. The scope of this project was grand. It included gutting the existing pool and patio and building a new tile pool with bi level granite decking. The upper level of the decking is where a spa sits, spilling over into the pool. Behind that, Esswein built a custom Pavillion where we can enjoy the shade while still keeping our eyes on the pool. In addition to that, Esswein broke up the existing patio attached to the back of the house and designed and installed a much larger granite living space, complete with built in outdoor kitchen, bar area and pergola. To complete the project, the landscape of the entire 1 &1/4 acre of the backyard was redesigned and planted with large trees, shrubs, annuals and perennials. There was literally nothing that Esswein Associates did not plan for and execute in a professional manner to create our "more than we could have dreamed of" backyard living space. Mark Esswein and his team were here every day and were all very reliable, respectful and courteous. We lived here during this process, and it was a pleasure to have such a nice group of people here. Two years later, We hired them again. This time to reinvent our front acre, The scope consisted of enlarging our very long driveway, adding a "parking" area and redesigning and planting the entire front yard. With each project, Mark designed a beautiful, grand plan. With each project he delivered a beautiful ,grand plan. Mark is a pleasure to work with. So much so, that we look forward to each new season, when he and his crew come to plant our annuals and garden pots. We are happy to say we consider our relationship with Mark Esswein to be "for life."”
