“We originally hired Magical Landscapes to help us figure out our new driveway access, necessitated by an addition to our house. From there, we progressed to have them draw beautiful plans for the entire property, which included replacing a 25+ year old front yard foundation shrubs, new foundation plantings for our addition, transforming what was an unwelcoming patio courtyard into a garden with shade loving perennials and shrubs, and creating several areas of seasonal interest around the property with unusual trees, shrubs and perennials. Lauren is most responsive, goes to great lengths to understand our style, and comes up with ideas and suggestions that make our property look exactly the way we want it to look. She has also been helpful in diagnosing some plant and insect problems over several years. She most recently designed and planted a lovely small garden to screen a newly installed generator and also created a shady shrub garden along a new fence at the property line. Working with Lauren is like working with a dear friend!”

“Iris has been the landscaping professional for both a NY city balcony and an East End home. The balcony is challenging, along the Hudson so very strong winds, and home has a lot of different shading issues to deal with. Iris has been the key to making this all work. First, very thoughtful and knowledgeable on the initial design. Knows her plants and has a good vision of where to go. Second, excellent on execution. Shows up when she says, gets the work done in a timely way, and leaves the place looking great. She is always accessible on email and phone, comes when needed, and has a deep bench of folks she works with. Third, great pride in her work. Comes by outside of necessary appointments to check up on the plantings, and has a critical eye so if something is not right she stays on top of it. For us, landscaping is very important and we spend a lot of time and resources on it, and Iris is a great quarterback for what we do. The forms asks for a project date, but after initially getting to know Iris (and replacing another landscaper with her), we have had her give us seasonal contracts for 2012, 2013, and again will in 2014.”

This project was on a tight budget so decided to give Tilly a try. We were a little nervous because Tilly was a fraction of some of the other prices, but I can easily say they do it all with just as much thought and care as those other guys. Our designer Stephen really got to know our needs and his thoughtful design clearly reflected that. Chicago is not an easy climate for landscaping and we were given only plants that thrived in our space and not someone is California's.
