Tranquil Forest Bedroom Ideas
Comments (21)We already have two big windows in the room so now just looking for some artwork to complement the mural. My husband found some great tealight holders that really work with the theme - two pine cones and the faux antler. I've also added brown and amber pebbles to my glass candle bowls which catch the light in a pretty way, and I've got a great new little light feature in the corner - long twigs with fairy lights that look great at bedtime!...See MoreExterior and front garden
Comments (25)The front of a house should be crisp and clean and elegant. That all important kerb appeal is created by simple lines and geometry. Give the hedge a radical trim, or even better take it out and put in something more structured like Hornbeam or Box that you can keep in shape. Introduce a tiled threshold that marks the entrance to the property. Have some wall washers either side of the entrance so that it's warm and inviting by night. Use some simple planters with clipped topiary to create a chic frame to the entrance. If you've got sufficient budget re-lay the pathway with a natural stone, or tile and give it a generous width of at least 1.2m to allow for planting to grow over. Create some simple planted borders along the pathway, again to mark the entrance to the house and introduce some softness. If you're looking for low maintenance remove the lawn and introduce more paving and some simple planting. I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but planting takes much less time to maintain than a lawn. If a lawn is not mown regularly it will quickly become overgrown and scruffy. A lawn needs weeding and feeding, scarifying and aerating regularly to keep it looking good. Hiding the bins is also a good idea. If you can't keep them round the back then put in a wooden bin store, or hide them with some hedging. Here's a link to a blog post about designing a front garden: http://gardendesignuk.blogspot.co.uk/2010/02/front-garden-design.html Here's a garden I designed in Woking, Surrey with a simple scheme that's really added some kerb appeal to this house....See MoreThe perfect grey.
Comments (45)Hi House Hunter, choosing the right shade of grey can be very difficult actually, it depends so much on the individual room and the amount of light etc. plus the look you're trying to achieve etc. Farrow & Ball and Little Greene are both great options, Dulux (in my opinion) just never achieves the same kind of finish or depth of colour. A really helpful book is 'Shades of Grey' by Kate Watson Smyth - I'd definitely recommend reading before choosing which to go for, it's a really interesting read for tips on choosing paint colours in general actually (not just grey!). Hope that helps :-)...See Morehow can I create kerb appeal
Comments (14)Hi, I'm of the same ilk as The Bulb co above, not a natural born gardener but clean and tidy with a few feature plants is great. A couple of plants that perform well for me, (mainly because i don't have to do anything are), 'red robin' and the Pieris Japonica which is the red one you have in the front garden by the looks of things. Both are evergreen and take very little care, well in my garden anyway. An occasional cut of the red robin keeps new growth coming through red. About once a year. There a link to more info from RHS whivh may help. https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=145 That's the end of my gardening knowledge but I would offer a suggestion of a nice modern outside light something like this adds a bit of a modern look. If you can move the light a little further to the right as you look at the house it's let you show off the architectural detail of your doorway a little better. Finally your home is pretty, it's looks well built and honest and that has a charm that many modern homes lack. We have a great magazine which in this months edition talks a little about post modern homes. It's worth signing up to our newsletter and you get the digital mag FREE along with lots of other VIP benefits on of which is discount for any new VIP subscribers really worth doing as it's giving a special 20% Off at the moment.
