design ideas for a very small house
Comments (43)hi, I agree that turning the kitchen into ensuite bedroom is a smart move, as the current layout means that you have to walk from the kitchen (with the meals) through the bathroom? Or maybe there's another access, but still open plan kitchen / sitting / dining room would work better. They often say, when buying furniture for a small space, choose the ones with built in storage (bed base with sliding drawers, puffs that open up, built in wardrobes if possible, etc.). Also when choosing tables, don't go for chunky pieces, but buy the glass ones, with thin legs, so they create the effect of bigger space. fix few mirros on the walls? Maybe large wall to floor mirror in one place (if you can stand them!). Plenty of shelving, tall, but slim units would work best. Also have you got a loft in the house? you can keep some of the stuff there. Last port of call is always just to rent a storage unit (you can find surprisingly cheap ones these days), and store the stuff you don't use every day. Lovely house and location btw!...See MoreVery small bathroom
Comments (5)Hi there, We're very used to designing small bathrooms (there are a lot of houses in our area with even smaller spaces!), so don't feel too phased! When planning your bathroom (especially a small one), you first need to look carefully where the waste will need to exit (and to a lesser extent, where your hot & cold water will be fed from), as this may limit your layout a little. Door position, hinge side and whether it opens in or out are also crucial! To maximise your space and make it feel lighter/airier, I'd recommend the following: Use a 1600w bath with plain glass screen and modern, chrome/stainless shower over. Add a short run of furniture with a back to wall toilet and a rectangular basin to maximise space. Mereway and Trend do some beautiful furniture in both 220mm and 320mm depths which are ideal. Add a lovely lit mirror above the basin to add a sense of space. For a little "luxury", why not ensure it has a bluetooth speaker built in so you can listen to some tunes? The difference in cost is minimal, but the benefit more than worth it! Keep all the walls completely flat (any boxing out or step-outs just highlight a small space) and use large format tiles in "landscape" orientation, picking whites/very light tones with maybe just the slightest hint of texture or pattern. Pick large format matching tiles in a slightly darker tone for the floor, or wide planked laminate flooring (such as Karndean Palioclick) designed for bathroom use. I'd pick whites or light greys for walls/floors and keep furniture plain and gloss "slab", then add just a restrained touch of colour in your fixtures/accessories. Seek out your local friendly independent bathroom showroom for lots if ideas on how to make your small bathroom work for you. Have fun! Comments (5)Hi Peri Its not the biggest of spaces but an ensuite could be squeezed into this space. You will also need to consider the cost of plumbing and waste. If you would like a scaled concept putting together for the space to understand what you will be able to fit into the space, plus a fly through video to see how you will feel in the space I can put this together for you for £150. I can complete this remotely. Check out the bathroom redesign I completed at My Claybrick Home knocking 3 small rooms into 1, This blog post also includes a video example of a fly through. www.myclaybrickhome.com/post/bathroom-renovation Feel free to get in touch for a free initial consulation by phone by replying here, or dropping me an email at vicky@myclaybrickhome.com Good luck with the new home purchase Rgds Vicky...See MoreVery small en-suite shower room in need of a re-vamp.
Comments (6)We have used one design from Linda Barker's range, called calcutta. I found it cheapest from multipanel. We have had it in our main bathroom for about 4 years and have been very happy with it. We're now installing the same one into our new ensuite. My husband installs it and I believe it's pretty straight forward....See Morebetty
