swimming pool and terrace

We have this pool, spa and terrace structure done . Struggling to finalize colours. What would you do? Note inside of the pool is also tile. Any and all ideas welcome!

I would stick to natural colours. Earthy stone, off white and maybe even grey. Are you going to pave up to the pool or use grass?

Hi thanks. The terrace will extend from this end , past the spa and will continue to where the débordement in the pool starts. Yes all tile. We are also thinking along your lines of grey / off white/ even looked at travertine look ceramic tiles/ beige/ Grieg… then started questioning if it’s too much to have it all the same and whether that big divider wall and the edges on the pool and spa should be a contrasting color

Yes planting and greenery can be a lovely addition in a pool house, there are some plants that thrive in that environment and others that dont do so well, but we have some very good gardeners that help with the selection and plant detail.

Hi, if the pergola is to add shade to the pool area I would consider a versatile solution such as a motorised awning that allows to control the amount of shade throughout the day. I would also add a strip light so that the pool area can be used at night.

The pool man was going to leave it like this. then he said could cover the blocks with mosaic tile. But I think the gap is too big and I don't like the blocks. so he said we can add extra marble and stick it underneath the present marble OR add 2 squares of the mosaic tile underneath the present marble , so the gap is less ,but I think I 'll still be able to see the blocks.

Are you going to tile the edges of the pool? If you are I would consider black.

I think it depends on several things. For instance if the house is traditional then terracotta might be a good choice. If you get direct sun then a palate that is too white could be dazzling and too hot to sit in and warm stone colours better. And if the space is too small to add greenery you might want to vary the tile coverings from the wall and the house to add visual interest.

Thanks Jonathan. It’s a French house which we have modernized. Inside theme is mainly black/ anthracite and white. Kitchen is all black, floating metal stairs etc. we do have lovely warm oak floors . It all works nicely together. The exterior of the house will be white/ off white. The terrace area just behind the spa is mostly in shade in summer. Yes we did wonder whether we’d have to use sunglasses even inside the house if we went with white tiles. Hence leaning towards lighter shades of grey or Grieg , beige/ cream, even a light travertine look tile. Choosing elements for inside the house was easy. Struggling a little with the exterior.
Would you do the big divider wall in contrast eg black or anthracite and use the same as edging?

I agree that a soft faded terracotta or beige would look great but it does depend on the style of the house. I think turquoise blue in the pool always looks fresh and inviting. Here’s a few ideas

As Sonia has shown on pics I think you will have a pool liner that introduces an element of colour, you might well take it up the wall between your garden and the neighbour. I think it’s nice to have a warm colour for the patio especially as it lends continuity to the wood floors you have chosen for inside. I like pools to be bordered with a contrast and like white. I suspect there is a regulation for slip rating but I would try to get the smoothest tile allowed for around the pool because there is nothing worse that wearing out the seat of your swimming costume as you sit on the side of the pool.

And I would probably treat the sunken spa with the same palate as used elsewhere. And I would probably avoid black surfaces for fear of it getting too hot to walk on.

I’m sure you have also got a plan for elegant lighting at night to make your space useable for more of the day.

Many years ago when I lived in London, I used to swim at the YMCA, which had dark blue tiles in the pool. It felt really exotic! Photo for inspiration, not the one I swam in 🤣
