I have just brought why Chesterfields for my living room and I have mahogany dining table and side tables coffee table what do I need to give you some room for the WoW factor in

Can somebody help me I have bought a white Chesterfield . I have a lots of mahogany furniture and I wouldn't want someone to tell me what colour should I paint the walls and what carpet should I have on the floor
I would like very pale carpet but I have white Chesterfields could somebody help me please

Thank you for your response. We had plans pretty finalised until we found out that we can keep just that long wall into the large space as it is a load-bearing. There is an opportunity to put a door in though. I am attaching what it looked like with all the walls that we can now remove. We have also been tinkering with ideas which I am adding as well. I added some comments on the plans as well. What we want to have is a dining area with a large table that seats 8-10 people. We want enough space for two people to work and cook in the kitchen. Thus, we were thinking of an island or an L-shape workspace coming out. We'd like to have a utility room to have space for all the cleaning utensils. Washer and Dryer will be upstairs in a separate laundry room. The living room is nothing formal but an area to relax and watch TV. We'd like to have an L-shaped cough in there for a family of four (2 kids under the age of 10).

Going for a white sofa would help create a light and airy living room. The white sofa would match the airy elements you already have in the room: the light pastel wallpaper and blue chimney heart, the white skirting, the light coloured wooden flooring. The black of the fireplace hearth can be tied together with details like black legs for the white sofa, black legs (maybe hair pin legs) for a white coffee table or for a cabinet (cabinets with legs look very smart: https://www.buzzfeed.com/alisoncaporimo/legs-for-days). Black cross legged lounge chair & ottoman in a navy blue would match the navy curtains. See through furniture helps for an uncluttered feel: transparent chairs, glass table, thin furniture legs, x leg ottomans. The window coverings also have to be in light materials. Consider introducing flowy sheer fabric with or instead of the navy curtains. White or light pastel coloured area rugs in the room and avoid choosing area rugs featuring heavy and busy patterns. I agree with everyone saying that open plan is good if you have a dedicated enclosed space for a snug or second living room. My son is an architect and he has seen a major change with people requesting ways to separate spaces to revert back to a more traditional layout. What about privacy for those moments when kids bring their friends over, they really do not want parents listening and being in their space! Designing a space for a growing family means trying to future proof the footprint. No matter how quiet appliances are meant to be, they will end up irritating you. We have a coffee machine, extractor fan, washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave, kettle in our current kitchen and are lucky enough to be able to move the kitchen into a 10sqm study to create a separate utility and then build a rear extension with a kitchen / diner / snug. We also have a ground floor loo and living room on the other side of the house. The noise of appliances we find exceptionally intrusive, partitions and half height walls may help reduce the noise but won’t eliminate them. Have you also thought about where you will store the kids toys, books etc and how easily you will be able to hide food preparation and washing etc from visitor? I do like the idea of having sliding doors if that is at all possible to zone off spaces when you do want a quiet area.

Hi Yasemin, I have added a very basic templated 3D model to give you the gist of how I’d lay out the space. Please take no notice of the styling, the templates are just what I had to hand on the computer. So I would use bench seating along the back wall for your dining table seating. This would allow you to push the table back further than you can with conventional chairs and thus keep traffic flow unrestricted through the space. There are a wide range of benches available these days from basic and beautiful wooden constructions (just add cushions if you wish), to sumptuous fully upholstered luxury pieces. There is also room for a sideboard for your tableware, you could create a beautiful sightline out of this by adorning it with table lamps and/or decorative accessories. Some wall art would be great here too. I wasn’t sure what the space was at the other end of the room (with glazed door), is this your main entrance? If it is you will need an outerwear storage facility of some sort. If its not a main traffic route then it could be a lovely space for a desk and study area. Good luck with your new apartment. L :)

Absolutely anything goes with white. What colours do you like? How do you want the room to feel? What direction does the room face? How much light is there?

I have mahogany furniture but I really don't want nothing dark in the room any more so what about Rosewhite on the walls then I have a dilemma what colour carpets to get with the white Chesterfield

If you want Rose White on the walls, I would go for a beige or taupe carpet. If your room is dark, you could add a feature wallpaper, Laura Ashley does lots of lovely white wallpapers with pearlescent inks so they have a lovely shine that bounces light back into the room, they are full price at the moment but have half price sales on all the time or have a look on eBay.

Add a statement mirror and that with the wallpaper could address your wow factor - a sunburst mirror would be lovely. For the curtains have something white but don't be afraid to go for some pattern as you don't want things to look bland. Add cushions in shades of pale pink, mink, taupe and grey, or you could add other pastel colours. Again make sure you add patterned cushions and cushions with texture. Another wow factor could be the lighting, add a really lovely lamp or a statement ceiling light.

If you don't like your mahogany furniture, you could paint it white. Have a look at chalk paints, just paint it on and seal it with wax. Or add mirrored or glass furniture.
