help ,for large high alcoves in a hall beside a beautiful fireplace.
Comments (5)Hi Bridget. I really love your mirror ( and the clock!) but I do wonder if it would work better if the mirror were really tall (just over the alcoves). My eyes are drawn to the alcoves rather than the fire which is lovely. It would also give the clock some space. You could also paint the alcoves in the ŵall colour or maybe paint the whole of the chimney breast to make the fire stand out? (I'd also move that small table if possible ). You have some interesting things in the room so maybe don't go for items that match in the alcoves? I think any objet d'art would look good, perhaps a bust or something in one? I'd have a look in antique shops for something a little unusual or there are some tall animal ornaments around that could look good even just sat on a couple of leather books which could suit the room?...See MoreDouble alcove help!
Comments (7)Thanks so much. Weirdly we don’t need storage as we have a play (dumping) conservatory and a giant cupboard with built in shelves. But somewhere to put away baskets of a small amount of toys would be good, I like the idea of one half bookshelf and storage space one half a chair with a more funky wall light as a small reading nook. I have no idea whether carpenters can build a chair that flips out but can be folded back! But also love the bookshalves with the billy book case. also a lot more cost effective I imagine!...See Morehelp - HUGE empty wall on stairs
Comments (4)Hi Mary, I can understand your design dilemma. In a small space like a stairway, it usually gets a bit tricky to decorate and not feel overdone. There are different ways to go about dressing up the large wall. I would use either a large rectangular mirror or a set of five mirrors that would cover a decent amount of area on the empty wall , at the same time reflecting the beautiful gallery wall. I would also use open shelving to place small plants and other home accessories, with a slim sideboard underneath if there's enough space as to not block the flow in the space. Attaching pictures for some ideas. Hope it helps. Neha www.expressionbydesign.co.uk...See MoreHelp please! Living room wall colour and alcove unit colour
Comments (4)It depends on what else you have in the room, the sofa colours etc. It looks to be a really nice room with some lovely features. Personally, I wouldn't paint it all a blue or a dark colour as East facing rooms can be gloomy on an afternoon. Have a look on instagram, there is a total shift away from dark interiors towards more neutral warmer ones. Not that this matters, but perhaps a year of lockdown has made a difference to what people want to live with....See MoreThe Original Book Works Ltd.
