how wold i find out the brand and color of the paint?

my kitchen zebrawood kitchen cabinets are the same hue and the banquettes and i would like to paint the wall they are on the same color
and use a glass backsplash

emeleee, Glad you decided not to paint the table. From the picture it looks like it's either walnut or mahogany. You have a good start on it, now just continue with the stripping. If you aren't afraid of the chemical strippers, get the strongest you can. Go to a paint store for all your products and advice, not a big box store. I use Kwik Marine Paint and Varnish Remover. Brush it on heavy and let it sit for a while. If there is a thick amount of finish still on it, scrape it off with a putty knife. If you have already removed most of it, brush it with a stiff synthetic bristle brush. Use old toothbrushes for the nooks and crannies. Once all the finish is removed wipe it down with either lacquer thinner or acetone, again making sure you get in all the nooks and crannies. Now the sanding. Try to determine if the top is solid wood or veneer. If veneer, be careful not to sand through it. Start with 100 grit and work you way up to at least 150, maybe 180. The grits will be 100, 120, 150, 180 of a good quality sandpaper, not bargain basement junk. Before moving on to the next finer grit, make sure all the scratches from the previous grit are gone. They will show up with a harsh light held at a low angle. This is a lot of work but to get a great finish it is required. There are no short cuts here. Now, stain if you want. If you want to know what it will look like without stain, spraying some water on it will give you a good idea. Once you get the color you want, put your finish on. The final color will not be what it looks like with just stain (or nothing). The finish will change the color. For a finish use shellac (hard to work with), brushing lacquer, or a good varnish. Don't use polyurethane, it is not a quality finish. At least two coats are needed with sanding between with 220 grit. Sand between every coat of finish and the next. Good Luck

Hello Nicola E, How you treat the paint work entirely depends on what you want to stand out.. The fireplace or the wardrobes.. This too depends on what else is happening in the room... If just a bed then it's entirely possible to create a feature of said wardrobes by painting them a bolder colour or the chimney breast a darker colour.. Look at the room and consider what you'd like to have as a focal point and how big the room is.. Shades of cream and off whites are far nicer than white.. So if you decide to include a white scheme, definitely look at shades of off white and creams.. Little Greene has a lovely range of chalky colours.. such as Whitening, White Lead, Stock etc.. These can be chosen for wood and walls.... They give a warm, chalky and sophisticated look which can blend beautifully with colours such as Celestial blue or James just to talk of blue and these are warm not cold blues .. I also like Juniper Ash which is a slightly mauve colour but look for warm versions of a colour you like.. So if the fireplace is to stand out and the wardrobes are a pale creamy colour the accent and focus is the fireplace which will benefit if the room is smaller than you'd like.. If you have a large bed then this might be the best way to consider it. If the room is large and you want something to create a statement then consider the fireplace and wardrobes.. A shade or two darker for wardrobes than chimney breast will create a frame surrounding both the fireplace and for the bed if this is facing on the opposite wall.. Blend the bedding and cushions, should you choose them into the scheme to create a cohesive and stylish finish. Lastly if you want a pale room with painted wardrobes these will form a statement and frame if you have less in the room... : )) Blended.... Contrast... This one isn't a bedroom but you get the idea..

Hi, Where will the tiles going - how much of the kitchen wall space? Is it just the walls at the other end of the room that you are painting? What colour/type will the flooring be? There is lots to consider when you are deciding on a colour which needs to tie everything together and balance the scheme. I agree that a lovely light grey would well in the space. Will there be any other punches of colour within the space? In accessories or small appliances perhaps? When we are talking about specific shades of a colour, it is difficult to recommend them online because it depends very much on the other specific shades of colour used with in the space.. and these are hard to see from photos? I think your instinct is spot on - the grey does not go with your lovely house at all! You said yourself, 'the grey craze', why follow the herd? Perhaps you should question why you want a 'contemporary colour' instead of one of the many choices which will enhance your beautiful period house. You don't see lovely pink Suffolk cottages, or the black and white half timbered houses characteristic of some areas daubed with grey because it's the latest fad.
