Comments (15)Actually Amanda, I've cooked with gas for years but now I have induction I'd never go back. The heat is instant and adjustable in just the same way as gas however the heat distribution is superior as it's more even. The other advantages are that the hob doesn't get anywhere near as hot so it's far safer, especially with young children, also cleaning is much easier as there are no bits and bobs to remove and, as the hob doesn't get hot, no burnt on residue if there are any spillages. Before I bought the hob I was concerned about heat distribution in a wok as I stir fry a lot, but I can honestly say it's been great with that too. I don't have a minimal kitchen, just a sleek counter, and personally I find the bulky Wolf hobs unattractive, but each to their own. In summary, in my opinion, gas is good but induction is better. That said, I'm not keen on this kitchen at all, sorry St James. Normally you give great advice and suggestions but here the sockets look wrong and I'm not keen on how they look on the tiling. What matters though is the clients opinion, so if they love it that's brilliant....See MoreWhich exterior wall lanterns to pick?
Comments (28)Ah that’s very serendipitous LTS, do post a pic when they’re up! Sarah - I spent a long time looking for something the right size, quality, style and price point. Unfortunately there was nothing that ticked all the boxes in antique brass in my price bracket. That said I’m really pleased with the black lanterns so I can’t complain!...See MoreWhat are you glad you put in your kitchen, and what can you do without
Comments (123)Thank you for everyone's comments, had no idea this thread would prove so popular when I started it. We are plastering this week and we have finally bought most things for the kitchen. I did find some real 'finds' though if anyone is looking. Not sure where you are based, but regarding electrical goods we researched all our own and narrowed down our list, and once we had that we looked online for the best prices for each appliance. Instead of buying from lots of different places we took it to Bentalls, who not only matched, but also cost us less, and beat some online prices with a good 'deal' price they also then will hold on to them until you need them, but if anything goes wrong you have 'bentalls' rather than several online dealers to return items to. RDO Appliances also do this if there is one near you, but i'd advise you to research prices first. Another thing we found was inserts for the kitchens. Through our kitchen supplier these were expensive, bin inserts, pull out drawers, pull out larders, even the pop up sockets, sourced seperately through ebay and online we managed to save quite a lot of money by doing this, so our fitter will still have the right things on the day, but we are not getting the inserts from the supplier. What else..... erm kitchen worktop, unbelievably the exact same worktop, same material, same cut outs etc.. same sizes differed between suppliers by 3k! so do shop around for your quartz and granite....See MoreCan you date my table?
Comments (42)Love it, it looks great :) That was a valspar paint wasn't it on the walls? That's the 2nd time today I've thought, hmm, maybe I should have shopped around a bit before paint a room F&B setting plaster! From memory you were looking at the Cole and son circus wallpaper, not sure of its proper name? The table and chairs look fab, you can see a fair bit of the coral legs. The wood has come up brilliantly. I think I remember a Victorian table before. I actually really like the floor as is.. I'm just trying to think back to your original inspiration pic as I probably won't find it again. Were you looking for the same effect but in Lino? I'm with you re spices and oil cabinets. The only thing I'd say is I think spices are meant to be stored in a cool place so may be better off in the larder....See MoreRB Marketing LLC dba Gas Copper Lanterns
