minimum clearance between island and dining table
Comments (10)Thanks all. Emily - thank you, this is the trickiest bit to work out. The drawing we have is with building a small stud wall and with a folding door (concertinas into utility space) so probably uses up about 1m of space in total. The alternative is, as you say, to have standard cupboards housing the appliances. Would take up the usual 65cm or so, but then of course you have to allow for the doors to swing open into the room which would need about 30/40cm clearance and given how frequently it is used, you wouldn’t want to be moving the table or chairs each time. So probably much the same in terms of how squished everything would be? Totally not wedded to the idea though so open to alternatives, just have to keep the boiler and washing machine on that side....See MoreBuilt-in oven and hob type recommendations. Comments (39)my thinking was the table could be pushed flush with the island the majority of the time leaving a gap to walk past of approx 140cm. Thats with a 110cm gap between island and units, 90cm island and 90cm table. Or if you rotate the table and have it pushed with one end against the island, a 120cm table would sit 4 and leave 110cm to pass which is the same as the gap between island and units. If it was an extending table it can be rotated 90 degrees on the rare occasion more seating is required. Yes, it would mean it would probably close off that side of the room but if it's not a daily occurance? Some compromises will have to be made if you really want to fit everything in that space unfortunately....See MoreBest oven configuration?
Comments (31)I prefer the rectangular island as in your last posting, but would move the ovens to the left, giving two full doors to the right alongside the door into the room. I fully agree with all the comments regarding accessible worktop for placement of hot items straight from the oven, you do not want the ovens directly opposite the hob. The I also think that it would look better!...See MoreHelp needed! Distance from doorway to kitchen island
Comments (7)Hi Dominic, Although I would say it's not ideal to have a door opening onto the island, 1.4 is a good distance. It's nice to have an unbroken pathway from the door through if you can. Of course, this isn't always possible. How far are your units from the island? If you have draws they don't pull out as far as a cupboard door so you can look around 1-1.1m meters. This also makes it easier to turn without taking a step which is handy when taking things out the oven etc If you bring them a little closer, could the island finish in-line with the door so it's not opening onto the island ( without knowing the current distance... this might not be possible). Could you shift the opening a little closer to the bathroom door? Or what about having no door and just the opening?...See Morenhbaskets
