How about using a vintage door attached to the wall? Cheap and easy.

Hey Tani. That's a shame you haven't found one yet. I finally found window shutters tall enough this week after month of searching ( and on the same day of emailing for a quote to have them made typically!) I do think the upholstered frame would be relatively quick and easy? In terms of the door, if you go for a single door, I would pop a bit of architrave on top. I Think the silver leaf could be very expensive and the delicacy of it may be at odds with the thickness of the door ( or there again that could actually make it work!). I quite like the idea of double doors but how tall is the ŵall? I think if you go for that option I would personally have a very distressed effect with white and grey paint, something like the attached ( hopefully less work). Beige seems a good way to go. However, headboards are easily changed with a piece of material sewn like a big pillow case, then you can change with seasons/mood etc: fuchsia, green, tapestry, silks, all those things that look great in the magazine but you wonder how long you can live with. Also good if you every want to move the room around and you end up with the bed against white instead of blue walls. Just in case you're like me and can never ever make up your mind.

Hi, I would love to see the end result if you do have any pictures.. My room has no real wall to put bed against.. one alcove is 100cm.. the other 120cm however it slopes where roof is, the goes into a large L or maybe even a L and another backwards L.. Did you just get the bedroom chimney breast taken out and/pr downstairs too?

I think if you look online you will see tall headboards that are more cost effective than making your own. Tall headboards give a modern look do perhaps you should put a roman blind at the small window. Something should also be the same height as the window- this doesn't have to be the headboard- it could be a picture. If you are just going to paper one wall I say do the wall opposite the bed as the bed wall has plenty going on and when you sit in bed you will want something to look at.
