Adding en-suite and walk in wardrobe to bedroom

We are hoping to add an en-suite and walk in wardrobe to our bedroom. Has anyone undertaken such a project? Any advice on where to begin? TIA

From an installers point of view, the criticality is access to the 4" waste to take foul water away (and anything in it) from the ensuite to the sewers. If you are building the ensuite adjacent to the bathroom this is straightforward, if its the other side of the house, you have a logistical nightmare.

We did both and I agree with the other comment-keep the en suite above a bathroom if possible as it's a nightmare to reorder pipes etc otherwise.
For fitted wardrobes, we (personally) found the usual companies absolutely useful and incredibly expensive. We had an idea of what we wanted and went for a private joiner-he undercut by half so it totalled £2700 for the wardrobes (built in under attic hanging space, full length wardrobe, 2 oddly shaped cupboards, 2 waist height cupboards, chest of drawers with seat & bedside tables.). Had been quoted 8K by one well known company!

Hello Leesh, It sounds like you rather like the idea of an en-suite and so I would perhaps suggest you go with it, rather than do one thing and then re-do it later. You mention the house has one single loo.. So would this mean presumably that you would also then situate a loo downstairs? If so perhaps you might consider turning the loo into a small wet room style shower room.. A wall hung loo and small sink would give you enough room for a small shower room fully tanked of course as they are lovely. If there is a bathroom with bath for example elsewhere on the upper levels then it could be one way of dealing with this smaller space.. Alternatively you may prefer to have a walk in closet.. Mind you.. If the bedroom is large enough you may be able to incorporate a walk in closet in the room itself.. I'm elaborating on your initial dilemma, but it may help you to decide just what you need and where exactly.. : ))

Definitely wardrobes first. Future value isn’t everything but I think some buyers would be put off by losing access to clothes when en suite is in use. The other option- could you create a small corridor at the end of the room so have a door into each? In theory you lose space in the dressing area but might gain by being able to use the longer wall runs for wardrobes rather than walking through the middle of them.
