proper hob and sink placement

please help me to decide the proper placement of kitchen hob and sink. I thibk the sink should be in the window but it will be awkward if its beside the hob. If I put in window then rangehood will block the window.

Hi Conrad, if you position the sink and the taps to the right side of the window it might work.

Hi - it looks like the hob is drawn right next to a tall cabinet ? This is not a good idea .
My suggestion would be to remove secondary sink from Island and put the hob on the island with a flush ceiling extractor then put your sink under your window. It's close enough to the hob for filling and emptying pots that way.
The space between bathroom wall and island doesn't look big enough for a proper walk through -
You may be able to close that gap completely and make the island bigger - move the stool seats to two at the left end of the island and two on the back and then have additional storage at the rear of the island - thus allowing the bathroom to open into the walkway area rather than right into the kitchen. And L shape stool seating is more conducive to chatting than all in a row !

I hate islands. Why have a big kitchen and turn it into a little one? I reckon they'll soon be getting ripped out all over the UK like hatches were. Remember when they were cool? The secret of good hosting is to prep and cook as much in advance as you can, then sit and drink wine (or tea, vimto, absinthe etc if you must) with your guests. I'm a bit of a design snob, I admit, but these things have the stench of 'nouveau ' all over them. Don't do it people.

It's a good point above about cooling pots. My wife cooks from scratch every day - proper food round here, no microwave dinners or loads of takeaways for us. I do the washing up at dinner time. (so old fashioned ). She nearly always has at least 3 pans. They wouldn't all fit in the sink filled with water waiting to be washed, and besides which, you'd need to take them out to rinse them and put them back on the work top or hob whilst you filled up the sink to wash everything else. So, we choose to put the pans back on the hob whilst cooling down too. I can see why you wouldn't want a hob on an island if it's to be a social area too. Also, she's a stickler for keeping the grand kids away from the cooking area, with pan handles turned to the rear of the hob for safety etc....................She'd probably spontaneously combust trying to keep them away from a whole island, which i'm guessing small kids might like to run around for fun. I'd vote no hob in an island..............but lets face it, it's all down to how you choose to use your kitchen and at the end of the day it's personal preference.

Good morning Hazel, Here's a link to a guide on small extensions under permitted development, if you haven't already looked at. https://interactive.planningportal.co.uk/mini-guide/extensions-single-storey/0 Once you have more idea on the construction of the extension and the exact dimensions, you'll be able to properly assess the internal space you have. You are correct in saying that it wouldn't be ideal to have to walk through the living space into the extension for the dining room. The proposed extension itself may not be ideal for a living/family area once a sofa and TV are in, as this won't leave much space for an external bi-fold/sliding door. Another option to explore is moving the kitchen to the left and having the living/family room to the right hand side (where the kitchen is currently situated). This will then mean the extension will hold the dining space.

Thanks for everyone’s comments, good idea to go with safe tiles and keep up to date with more easily changed aspects of the bathroom! Was thinking about mixing the lighter grey or darker grey hexagon tile with a brick or chevron pattern as I think it looks really good, however struggling to decide where to put hex tiles and where to put chevron/brick. We are going to go with a straight edged shower seat which removes the need for mosaic tiles (which we weren’t keen on) but can’t decide which way round to do it! Am thinking one type of tile to the floor and shower floor, and another type of tile to the shower walls, seat and wall behind sink. Or should we tile seat the same as the floor? If going for grey/light tiles throughout, should floor be darker and walls be lighter? Should the brick/chevron tiles be roughly same size as hexagons or smaller/larger? We are definitely set on these hex tiles either white or grey - any suggestions for brick tiles to go with? Cheers Cheers
